Hey guys - posted this over on GLFWDA and go no response, anyone up for a parade?

The Ortonville DDA has invited us to participate in their 2013 Creekfest celebration on June 29, 2013.

"This is a two day event with a carnival, contests, bed races, entertainment, food, vendors and fireworks on Saturday night.
It all kicks off with a parade on Saturday June 29th at 10:00am. The parade route is only about 1/3 mile and will take about 15 minutes to complete the route. From check in (9-9:50am) to completion of the parade for each participant would be about an hour (from check in to their end of the parade)."

They have invited us to bring six vehicles for the parade, plus additional folks walking the route to hand out flyers, candy for the kids, etc. However, they were very specific about their expectations for the vehicles that participate - no loud/smokey/over rich exhausts, no visible leaks, and most importantly clean and shiny. While this may seem a bit picky, please remember they are inviting us to their event, and will provide us with a good PR opportunity.

If interested post here, send me a PM or e-mail. If you can show up in either GLFWDA shirt, GLFWDA member club shirt, or GLFWDA-sponsored event shirt, even better. I will work with Ed and Wayne to make sure we have flyers available. If you want to take the opportunity to purchase a GLFWDA shirt for the event let me know and we will see if we can get a supply on hand that day to save on individual shipping charges.

Also, raise your hand if you are in/near Oakland County and have one of our banners - I know Wayne has one on the west side and Jeff has one up in the St Helen area, but I lost track of the third one - let me know.

I spoke to Dave from TT, he said our best bet to get assigned to the same area would be to simply get in line for registration together and have the first person tell the folks working the desk that we all want to work together.

Registration is from 8-9, and we get a free small coffee/cocoa with registration, so whaddaya say we plan on meeting at the gas station right around 8am?

    Monday 3-18-13 1pm-4pm
Marquette, MI - NMU University Center (Great Lakes Rooms)

All are invited to attend - however the first hour of each workshop will focus on issues specific to ORV Grant Sponsors, particularly maintenance issues, and may be a bit tedious for the general public.

The workshops are geared to increase communications between groups and provide clear, concise information on trail maintenance responsibilities.

The trails update session (after the first hour) will focus on overall IRV updates from the department (and legislators at the Marquette session).

As always, any questions should be directed towards the DNR trail technicians:

The Lounge / Hi-Fi to digital
January 27, 2013, 08:52:54 AM
Yes I said Hi-Fi, not Wi-Fi.  For the kids out there, Hi-Fi stood for "High Fidelity" and was a big deal 40 years ago - it meant stereo sound vs mono sound.

I have my old vinyl collection, and before I take it to a dealer or the trash bin (does anyone really care about the Beach Boys' "Pet Shop Sounds" anymore?) I would like to find a way to convert the LPs that are still serviceable to MP3.  Anyone have the right equipment?

Events / GLFWDA Winter 2013 Quarterly Meeting
December 07, 2012, 02:24:28 PM
Once again we will be partnering with SoFO to squeeze the Winter Quarterly meeting in between portions of the SnoFari Event.

Date: 1/25/13
Time: 5-6pm
Location: Quality Inn West Branch http://www.qualityinn.com/hotel-west...5/Hotel-Photos

Format: Live plus (hopefully) web access

As you may recall hearing, the Association has some new A/V equipment bought specifically for our 4WD awareness training program. We are going to get it up to WB for the meeting, and use it to present our agenda, financial reports, etc since that same set of images will also be what our remote attendees see as well.

If you are attending the SnoFari festivities, the meeting will be in between the afternoon runs and evening registration/night runs. If you are concerned about squeezing dinner into that tight schedule, Subway is available in the connected gas station plus we will see if we can get the Lumberjack to offer a selection of easy-to-eat "to go" specials for us like they did last year.

Greetings,
We at the DNR hope you had an safe and fun summer enjoying the many miles of trails and scramble areas open to ORVs and ATVs. As always, you can access information about ORV and ATV riding in Michigan at the DNR website at www.michigan.gov/orvtrails.
As you may know, the DNR is working with Michigan State University to assess current levels of ORV ownership and use, as well as interest in an ORV Training Center in the state. We invite you to participate in a short survey about these issues. The questions should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Your opinions are important to us so please click the link below and take the survey today.

Events / Moundsgiving 2012
October 08, 2012, 09:43:07 AM
I contacted Nancy Edwards from Genesee County Parks last night while we were at the meeting, and this morning, not only did she send the permit application, but she threw down the gauntlet of challenge:

Of course you CAN (pun intended!)!

You know it might be kind of fun to arrange the cans in the shape of a Jeep...just something to spice it up a bit!  It would require a bit more planning, like asking people to bring a certain kind of food so the colors match, etc.  Check out this website to see what I'm talking about, http://www.canstruction.org.

Can we do our canned food drive again this year? If so, please send me a permit application.

You have to check out the website she suggested - some really clever people. organizing cans in all kinds of creative ways.  I like her suggestion of trying to do a Jeep, and it might give us a bit of a PR push if we can come up with both a design that is simple enough to complete on Thanksgiving morning, and give us a specific list of stuff ask people to bring.  You know and I know that cash goes farther for the Eastern MI Food Bank than canned/dried goods, but it sure would be a hoot to put together.

What do you think?

The Lounge / DNR Trail User Survey
August 14, 2012, 11:54:47 AM
August 14, 2012
Dear Trail User:

The Michigan Snowmobile and Trail Advisory Committee (MSTAC) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are committed to better understanding trail user interests, needs and concerns. The MSTAC and the DNR are developing a plan for a statewide trail network that will address snowmobile, ORV, hiking, biking, paddling, and equestrian needs.

The plan moves the state toward the goal of becoming known as "The Trail State". The plan will identify priorities for improving the system and constraints for implementing those priorities. It will also serve as a marketing piece showcasing Michigan's incredible trail network and the opportunities expanding this network presents to Michigan's quality of life and economic prosperity.  As we plan for the future of the state's trail system, we need your help.

We would like to know your membership's opinions about the state's trail system, how you use the system, and ways the system could be improved. We ask that you electronically forward this entire note to your members or to other trail users. The link to the survey can be found at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7H2SCSJ.  The completed survey will not be sent back through your organization, but will be available to the DNR for analysis. The DNR will not have access to who filled out the survey or their email address. We are asking that the survey be completed by August 31.

The information collected from this survey will be compiled, analyzed and provided to the MSTAC members and to the DNR trail planning team. The trail plan is required to be completed by the spring of 2013.The draft plan will be submitted to your organization for additional input.

This is the first step in improving communication with trail users. In the future, we will inform you about trail events, opening of new trails, and seek your opinion on a variety of subjects. If you are not the right person to receive these emails, or your organization is not interested in being on this list serve, please send the corrected information to trailusersurvey@michigan.gov

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Donna Stine at

The Lounge / Auto parts rant
June 24, 2012, 08:53:59 PM
Not all auto parts stores are created equal.  I had to redo my rear brakes this weekend and was hoping toget the pads replaced under warranty.  But when I went to my favorite Advanced Auto, they did not have a record of it.  Since none of their stores are connected, I visited all 5 of my favorite AA stores, no luck.  But along the way I learned that the Auto Zone stores are all on the same system.  Never did figure out where I bought the last set of pads and rotors, must have picked them up at an AA in another county.  Bought this set ar AZ though.

Oh and after all that running around looking for my warranty, turns out new pads were only $17.99.

I hate Mounds mud.

I am tired of smelling it even after paying the local wrestling team $10 for a car wash plus spending 2 hours with the power washer.  My yard now has a high spot.

I got some crap hung up in my L Rear caliper, pads dragged themselves to death last week.  Break job coming tonight, going to need rotors.

I have mud on the inside of the windshield.
