we are going up on july 27 th to atlanta for our 70+ miles of trails camping on my 40 acres up there we are going to need help on this ! can we get a show of hands please
I can come up Saturday for the day, but have to be back down here for GLFWDA quarterly (here in Flint) on Sunday
I cannot make it. We are moving our business that weekend and following week. Wish I could. Would much rather be in the Jeep in the woods, but can't do it.
damn thats a bad weekend. i was REALLY hoping that with the quarterly being in flint the club could make a strong showing
I could make the GLFWDA meeting but not the trail clean up.
Hopefully we can make it back to Flint to make that meeting in time.
we could if we get enough help
I'm in! Are we carpooling?
For the record; I will be there to help on Saturday.
That's four hours from my house.. I'd come, but I'd be alone, my wife is pregnant with twins and will kill me after four hours in a wrangler. Also, it's her birthday this month so I'm cash hoarding.. Sorry, but I have to sit this out barring something.. not sure what.
I should be able to make it. If you don't want to drive the distance in your Wrangler Yager, you are more then welcome to ride in a nice comfortable XJ....lol. I have plenty of room. I used to drive a YJ and no the feeling of long trips on your back in one of those...lol.
I'm gonna see about getting the day off from work. If I can I'll be driving the Focus for the good gas milage.
Quote from: "longarm"I'm gonna see about getting the day off from work. If I can I'll be driving the Focus for the good gas milage.
Was pondering about taking my Tempo. 15 year old car, has 170,000 miles and still gets 33 mpg. You would think todays cars, 15 years later, could do a lot better then they are now on gas milage
Sorry, but the 26th is my birthday and Lisa has the family (my parents and sisters and kids) coming up to Upper Silver for the weekend. Atlanta and Mears is too much driving for one weekend.
I don't know if we will be comming up or not. Everything is up in the air. at the moment. I think Ed might try to make it up and I won't be able to come.
I'm looking to make this ! I'll be bringing my truck again ... so I have 1 extra seat .
I will be going. 4 extra seats with me.
So how many vehicles are going up.. I count possibly 4 right now. How many vehicles do we actually need?
I would be happy to ride and share gas $$
Paul you can ride with me. I think John is also. I think we only need a couple cars to go.
ill ride with ya neil
I'm pretty sure the best way might be to split up and have two set of cars going towards each other from different ends .. so the more the better !!
I might be able to make it if we are going up for the day of saturday... if not I cant get sunday off...
Okay matt. your in.
1 spot left.
Where we meeting ? And at what time ??
Saturday Morning? I was gonna leave early that morning so we could follow each other up Tony.
my family and i are going up on friday afternoon you all are welcome to stay at our place bring a tent will be having steak on saturday night on the campfire the club is buying :D we will all meet at the DNR building on m33 just north of atlanta at 10 am saturday if any one needs directions call my cell 810 834 9447
If you still need the help Ed and I should be able to come for Saturday. Just let us know what time and where you are leaving from and we will follow.
Stay tuned as we figure it out. We need all the help we can get.
I still plan on going, but will need to split the gas cost with someone. Will cost way to much to drive all the way up there and back in the XJ and I know Neils Yukon gets worse gas then my XJ..lol I think we should all pool in, in my opinon, for gas for the trip of have the club cover the gas.
Steve you are welcome to ride with me. I wanted to get 5 people in my truck to make it cheap on a bunch of us.
Right now I have myself,John,Matt and maybe Doug or Paul Hittie.
5 ways it would only cost us $20.00 each.
Do we have to have a vehicle to make it down the trails or can I offer to car pool a bunch of people up in the dually?
It turns out that I will be here instead of at the Canfield Jeep & Truck Fest as previously planned. I didn't find out until today.
So either I can ride with some one to help out if there is any extra seats available or I can offer to split the fuel with 4 to 5 people and take the dually up. If it can get into some of the trails we can use the bed for transporting some of the debris out.
I know it's short notice, but I just found out today.
Thanks,
Anthony
I just got the GREEN light to go ahead and go. I'll take Tony's passenger seat, if it's the one available.
What kind of gas milage does that dually get?
Approximately 21 depending on speed. If I go 60mph I get about 21 to 22 if I go 70mph I am down to about 19 or 20.
Anthony
wow.. pretty impressive.. didn't think they did that well.
Quote from: "Mudviper"wow.. pretty impressive.. didn't think they did that well.
no problem in an unloaded turbo deisel. now an old daully with a big block, that would suck
The truck should be fine on these trails Anthony.
Car pooling is gonna help everyone out gas wise.
Well then, I have 4 comfortable seats available, and 5 if some one wants to sit in the middle up front. ::poke::
How many miles/hrs is it to this location? I can calculate fuel that way and give the to be car poolers a general idea of fuel charges.
I can leave when ever the to be car poolers would like to leave.
I almost forgot. My truck is a non-smoker. We can stop for smoke breaks if we have to.
Thanks,
Anthony
Roughly 180 miles up there.
I plan to leave my place at 6:30 am Saturday morning to be at the DNR station on M-33 before 10 AM.
My truck is for smokers if that helps any. ::ouch::
Quote from: "Harley"I just got the GREEN light to go ahead and go. I'll take Tony's passenger seat, if it's the one available.
Your more than welcome Harley
This is this weekend right? fri-sun? let me see what I have going on, I might be able to shuffle some stuff.
I believe the majority of us are leaving saturday morning, and should be up there near 10AM.
Is there a game plan set on how we are going to attack this project? Also since we have groups of people drive up together, what are the food plans, breakfast, lunch , dinner. Bring your own cooler or one master cooler?
I am leaving at 6:30 am. We are starting the clean up at 10 am. Plan for lunch on the trail. Dinner will be cooked at the cabin. The club is buying dinner.
We plan to split into 2 groups and work toward each other.
Steve you riding with me???
Yeah I can ride with you, room providing. I take it we are all meeting up at your place and heading out from there?
I still have 4 seats available as well.
Do we need to bring chain saws or clippers, or weed eaters?
Yes steve. Meet at my house no later than 6:30.
Anthony bring anything you thing we might need. Clippers, chainsaw, gloves ect. Weed whips only are good if you have a cutting head for it.
My truck is now full. Remember Anthony has empty seats as well.
hey, not sure this is a dumb question or not, but is there a need to bring twine, etc to bind up what you cut? How about something to haul it out of there with? I'm just trying to think of loose ends that might kick you in the hind end once you get up there.
Oh, BTW, I'm not going to be there--the Hannah Montana concert is on in 3D that night and I will be entertaining something like 9 tween-age girls. I can hardly wait..... ::ouch::
Not sure how this club does it, but I know when I have done trail maintenance we never really haul anything out. Basically all we did was trim the trail to make sure the trail maintained the correct wide. Any thing we cut just got thrown to the side.
Thats the idea Steve. We did haul out some trash last year. Beer cans ect.
So as it turns out, one of my customers who owns a Liquor Store was broken into, and during the break in they destroyed as many cameras they could get to and tried to smash the PC DVR.
However, after taking out the DVR and removing the HD I was able to retrieve all of the footage to catch the 3 guys in the act. That was fun to be able to get the bad guys for once. They were picked up this afternoon.
On the other hand I have to go back in Saturday and Sunday after the construction crew gets the store back to some what of a normal state, and put up some temporary cameras and re-wire the whole building as most of the lines were cut or damaged during this whole ordeal.
Due to the priority of this situation I have to unfortunately step down from the trail clean up this weekend and tend to my customer.
I wish you all the best and I hope it all goes smoothly.
Thanks for understanding,
Anthony
Weather for Atlanta, MI: Saturday mostly sunny and 81, for those who may be staying.... Sunday is partly cloudy and 76.
We are leaving tomorrow night, see everyone Sat morning. If anyone wants to come up friday night, everyone is welcome to camp out.......but, remember the cabin is very rustic (hand pump well, and out-house) we do have electricity though ::woot::
last time we were up there we did get somewhat of a cell signal if anyone needs to get a hold of us.
Everyone drive careful and see you all Saturday!
I volunteered to come up on Saturday morning to help .
My problem is ...........Where in the hell I'm I going?; me thinks I need some directions once I get to Atlanta?????? If thats where the trail clean up is.
::ouch:: ::ouch:: ::ouch::
And does anyone want to ride up with me Saturday morning?

If you are in the Fling area, there are a few of us meeting at Nosilla's house and leaving his place at 6:30 Saturday morning
General directions:
Find your best route to "downtown" Atlanta, MI, located at the crossroads of M33 and M32. I prefer I75 to M33, then straight up M33.
I talked to Neil the other day, I think the general plan is to meet at the DNR field office, a mile(?) or so north of M32 on M33, right (east) side of the road. We can meet up in the parking lot and gather the necessary supplies.
Speaking of supplies, there are a couple of sections in the Atlanta system that usually require a fair amount of brush removal. If you have access to a weed-wacker with a heavy-duty brush cutting head, or a gas-powered hedge trimmer, we can find some placces to use it.

The Atlanta system has 3 seperate routes - Elk, Brush Creek and Tomahawk. Tomahawk in the north includes a useless section laid out like quilt squares that depending on the recent weather can be really overgrown with wild roses and other vines that live to rip you apart. The bottom section, Brush Creek, is (or was last year) still pretty heavily wooded, and is usually where we find the most trees down on/near the trails. Elk, in the middle, has a little bit of something for everyone. I'll try to get oversized copies of my map book made for tomorrow so all of the drivers (or at least each group) can have a decent map.

We are actually going to have to work while we are up there... hmmm going to have to re-think this and might have to charge extra for that..lol

Don't forget bug spray and sunscreen !! Cold beer/pop/water and a few munchies !!! Also a few trash bags , gloves , beer , chain saw , beer , a snatch strap in case it rains and it gets very muddy , beer .... Not sure but I know I'm forgetting something !
heh, you typed "snatch"
I think Chris is out for tomorrow. As we should have expected, but hoped wouldn't happen, our appliances that were "promised" to be delivered this morning before noon, arrived at about 4:15 this afternoon. The delay was that our oven was "messed up" when they went to load it on the truck so they needed to get a replacement. The dishwasher, once out of the box, looked like it lost what may have been a pretty bad fight. The replacement was dropped off (almost literally) at 5:45 this afternoon. The microwave is still in the box, so that may be a surprise waiting to happen as well. On the up side, the appliance store felt terrible about the delay and the oven, they knocked off $200 and upgraded us to a more fancy oven (which was also $400 more than the one I chose...) They haven't addressed the dishwasher issue other than going to get a new one, so we'll see what happens there. I going to give them the benefit of the doubt...
So, needless to say, Chris has been "grounded" to do appliance installation since our Hannah Montana wannabes will be here primed and ready to party tomorrow afternoon. Sorry about that, I know I was looking forward to having him up north. Opps, I mean HE was looking forward to going up north....
Gotta work tomorrow anyway.
And Tony, you know what I'm talking about..........
Sorry, I'm working tonight and tommorow. I won't be able to make it.
man this is early in the morning !!!! ::ouch::
Sorry again, I've been stupid busy. I worked this morning and with gas and trying to buy a house and build an XJ before the twins come, I'm kind of hoarding cash.
Thanks for the carpool offers though. Sorry I couldn't help.
Made it home ........ no carnage that I saw !! Time for bed .....
i am le tired
Heres the gps trail i recorded during the cleanup.
I was using Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006.

Thanks Matt!
Regarding our second trip up there....
I think I am going to have to bow out if we are going next week - I have to be back in town Friday to get Deb & Jonathon, and Thursday afternoon I have to go to Roscommon for a DNR meeting.
