Tech Talk / Re: 35's...

Thats true.. I was kinda thinking today.. This is kinda how it is for me:

Minimum wage - I can afford somewhat of a hobby, some things here or there

~$10 an hour - I can afford one solid hobby, maybe a few little extras here or there..

And the more I make, the more hobby's I can afford. So I've decided that because thats how I work, I will never have any money! :p

Yea.. True. Everytime I look at the 33's on my dads truck, they look so massive. I just gotta learn to be content with what I can afford. :D

Yea.. I dont want to rush myself to the point where I start breaking things, but I would like to avoid having to build up so much money to drop, then rebuild up again. I dont make enough money to do that. :D

I dont necessarily want monster tires so I can do more monster offroading, I just like the looks of 35's best, and its what I would eventually want for offroading too.

I guess it still sounds like running 33's would be my best bet for now.

Yea, I think someone might have mentioned this at the meeting, but theres a "local events" insert that is always included with the Flint Journal. They usually have some of the lame things like plays and musicals, so it would be nice for people to actually see something cool in there -- haha!

I have no clue what gears I have right now. Neil thought 3.73's. I was able to hit 90 on the freeway, going downhill, today if that tells you anything about how my gears are currently.

Hmm.. I really would not mind only being able to do 60 for a while.. until I could afford to re-gear. Maybe that would be the best route.. Get the 35's I want, get the lift I want, drive slow until I can get a re-gear.

That would probably be the cheapest route.

94_xj_country: yea, my dad runs a Banks exhaust on his Dodge Ram Diesel. It sounds fricken bad ass. I'm hoping the Monster Exhaust sounds good on my Jeep too...

If I could get the lift, tires, and lockers I want.. I would be very close to finished with what I eventually want my Jeep to be. I would just want some asthetics, some little things like line-ex'ing the interior, and exhaust, intake, etc.. Just little things would be left. :D

Tech Talk / 35's...
July 02, 2007, 07:41:06 PM
I'm wondering. I'm trying to avoid buying 33's, saving up money, spending a grand on re-gear, having to sell my 33's, and then buy 35's.

The concern is that I have the 4cyl, and I have an auto tranny. I've been told I'd have to re-gear to run 35's. I'm wondering if either of these alternatives would work better or be cheaper/easier:

Alternative 1 (things I want to do in the near future anyways):
-Banks Monster Exhaust
-Performance Intake
-Jet Performance Chip
-Banks TorqueTubes Exhaust Manifold

Alternative 2 (what I wanted to do in the somewhat distant future anyways):
-Buy Dana 35/44/60 locking axles that already have the gear ratio I need in them
-Not sure what else I'd have to buy to do this

If I went the route of alternative 1, I'd probably eventually re-gear anyways. But I'm wondering if those few parts in alternative 1 would give me enough extra power (like 50 or so horse from all that stuff right?) that I wouldn't struggle to get up to speed turning 35's.

Or would I really be better off going with 33's first, saving up, re-gearing, then getting 35's and going through all that work?

Hmm.. couple things.

Neil, theres a possibility we wont be able to use my canopy. My mom evidently loaned it to my aunt that weekend. But there was like 3 or 4 other people with canopy's so that shouldnt be an issue. I should have given you money for my spot while I was at your house today.. Didnt even think about it.

Also, theres a possibility I could hand out some flyers while on deliveries (I deliver pizza's for papa johns, which I'm sure most of you have heard by now.. think I mentioned that at the meeting too).. I dont know if that would be beneficial or not, but I have a few people I deliver to frequently that have jeeps/4x4's and comment on my jeep when I deliver to them.

Also, Neil as I mentioned earlier, I'd like to help out any way I can. If you have a job that needs to be done that you think I might be able to do, let me know.

Sounds good man. I'm really looking forward to this trip if/when we go. I'd have to skip my other family reunion to go though, ha. One for the 4x4 show and one for badlands.. I'm on a roll.

Not sure if you guys have anything in the members-only section, but heres the info I've gotten:

http://www.badlandsoffroad.com

Also, size was discussed yesterday and according to their site its 700 acres, which isn't 2000, but still massive (the mounds is under 200 acres I believe. Scramble Area 1 is only 8 acres according to the mounds website).

QuoteThe Badlands was a dream of Troy Myers since he was a young boy. Troy's father owned and operated a motorcycle shop for many years.  And as a result, motorcycles and ATVs became a part of his life.  In 1995, Troy made his dream come true.  He purchased the old gravel quarry in Attica, and "The Badlands" was born.  He knew it would be the prefect place for riders, as he had ridden "The Pits" as a boy.  As the park grew, Troy and his wife purchased additional land, and now offer that land to 4-wheel drive vehicles, as he loved that sport as well.

The Badlands off-road park consists of several people working together to give you the most awesome time you can have off-road.  We provide some of the best trails; from mild to wild, in this part of the country.  Our staff consists of professional people with backgrounds in machine trades, business, mechanics, design, medical, and law enforcement.  We have a well-rounded staff to help you with all of your needs.  We want to make our park fun for the whole family.  We have met so many wonderful people that have visited our park; people from different backgrounds, clubs, nationalities and cultures.  These people all have one great thing in common, the love of off-roading.

The "Badlands" ORV Park is a privately-owned tract of about 700 acres in western Indiana, about 30 minutes south west of Lafayette. It is literally a smorgasbord of off-road riding: sand dunes, pea gravel hills, bottomless mud, the tightest off-camber woods trails, extreme rock crawling, shear drop-offs, hood-deep water, stream crossings, etc. You name it, it's probably here.
