Tech Talk / Re: Spray on Bed Liner?

Awsome, thanks. I have some rust I have to treat and paint first. It looks like there might be some paint blistering under the 'WRANGLER' on the back quarter panel, not sure how to treat rust that is still under paint, and I'd rather not mess up the letters. Guess I'll just have to check it out when I pick it up on thursday.

Tech Talk / Spray on Bed Liner?

I've seen jeeps with spray on bed liner. I'm wondering what your take on it is for the floor and the rocker panels? Assuming rust is cleaned up, treated and repainted.

Jeep Talk / Re: The Begining of a Jeeper

She just thinks they're not real safe for baby's. I don't get it either.. I'm like.. Hon, it has a roll bar, how many family sedans or mini-vans have you seen with roll bars and four wheel drive? Then she'd sight that it would fall over easy, and said she wanted a cherokee. I wasn't about to tell her those fall over just as easy, because then I would've ended up with a Chevy Trailblazer.

As for her getting her own jeep, I think that's sadly, probably going to happen. When she drove the cherokee to college, all the dudes were like "That's not yours!" and she was all, "Hell yeah it is." So.. It's begun. But she can't drive a manual, yet, so I'm safe for a bit. I wont allow her to get an off road rig that's automatic, it's just not as much fun.

Jeep Talk / The Begining of a Jeeper

How my wife became a jeeper.

So, about eight months ago I got my first jeep. I wanted a wrangler, but my wife would have none of it, citing the baby's safety as the primary concern. Despite my attempts to correct her view, I couldn't. We settled for the Grand Cherokee, which I do adore, but it just isn't a wrangler. I had only one choice if I ever wanted to truly get a wheelin' rig, and that was to prove to my little darling that jeeps are unbelievable machines.. So, I took her out to Sweeter Road in Muskegon.

It was dark, we had no idea where the trail head was, no CB, no cell phone reception, and my buddy Andrew had turned off my GPS for some reason. (It's cheap so we couldn't track it back out). We were at the top of a hill that we couldn't see the bottom of, and it was sandy and rutted out. I put my little WJ into four full time and started the descent. It was easy, a little slippage, but good. Unfortuanately, at the bottom, I found another hill, almost identical, but at a slightly steeper grade. In my mind, we were screwed. In her mind, we were going to die out there.

I relied on 4 low now, and it took three attemps, some steering wheel wiggling, and a whole lot of "Come on baby, come on sweety" but we made it to the top and were cruising comfortably down a trail. My wife turned to me and said...

"I never thought it'd do it, but jeeps are %$#!ing amazing.."

I bought my wrangler last wednesday.

Yeah, the bitch about it is is that wranglers are in such high demand you have to pay more than you would for other vehicles. Their resale value is rediculous. I still made out under the private party rate. I figure, clean up the rust on the floor boards, paint over to prevent more, then clean up the rust on the rear right where the minor damage is and paint again to prevent. Then, black diamond plate on the rear corners and tail gate to spruce things up. You guys probably know, what paint would be best?

Thanks. I'll probably do 31's then, I'm not looking to pay out to regear the axles yet.

Tech Talk / Tires and lift?
October 17, 2007, 10:08:12 AM
I don't think the wrangler I bought has any mods, short of oversized tires, which I doubt are oversized enough. I'm fixing on doing 31's or 33's. I wont trailer it, and plan to do michigan trails and jamborees, so I need the highway performance. I'm thinking a two inch add-a-leaf that comes with the longer shocks, and larger tires. If I have to, I can do a shackle or body lift to fit them. The real question is, how much will 33's drag on my highway performance (speedometer, gearing, it's a manual), and, can I get them on a 95 wrangler with only a 2" add-a-leaf+shocks?

Yeah, we already got into the headlights discussion last night on the chat. Hey, 6 PM at Sharkey's on the 4th, 1st Sunday in Nov, right? Is there a ride, or is this just a bar/restaraunt gathering to bash guys with square headlights and talk about what we think we should do in the coming months?

I'd love to join you, but I bought I wrangler today and I pretty much stretched the bank account to do it. I wont be doing any riding this month. But definately keep me updated, I'm not opposed to traveling, camping (even in winter), or driving on snowy trails.

Fresh meet, get it? Heh heh.. okay, I don't think it's funny either, but it was clever, yes?

Anyway, my name is Jamison, last name Yager, and usually go by that. My wife and I are a young couple and we have a 2 year old daughter. I have an 04 Cherokee Laredo and a 95 Wrangler S. We moved from the muskegon area over here about two years ago and havn't been able to find anywhere to ride. We're looking for people to go wheeling with, and some comraderie. Unfortuantely, we're very busy people. I'm active national guard, my wife is a student, and I'm also going to the fire fighter's training, so, hopefully we'll be able to make some meetings.

PS: Over here is the howell area.
