soo while out at a pets store getin stuff for the dog, jessica decided she wanted a bird. so of course, we're picking it up tomorow morning. shes gettin a quaker parrot. i know nothing about them, i just wanted the really big one that looked like he flew striaght here from margaritaville (which we did not get, due to the 1000+ price tag), but does anyone know what i can expect from this bird behavior wise, and how much i can expect to spend on vet bills and such?

hey a buddy of mine has a mckaw it was a pain due to it having a blood curdling screech in the middle of the night an its foul mouth it picked up from some one   oh and i wanted to take off your finger    but if you train them right they can be real cool if you can handle being craped on        oh and if you get sick of them you can eat anything with enough catsup
Let\'s go wheeling!

ROFLMAO, Pam!  Too funny!!

I have never had a bird (but I'm soooooo right with you with wanting a McCaw [the Margaritaville bird].  Shocker, huh?).  However, I have heard that they need lots of SPACE, need to be able to get out of the cage and get around (have the wings clipped so it doesn't fly away from you.)  I have also heard that they are best when they are raised from birth (egg? Laying?  not sure the right term here...)  That way you can really get them used to being handled, etc.

Not sure on vet bills, but find one that has experience with birds.  We use Pierson Vet in Davison and they are really great with our cats.  When I head up for another cup of coffee I'll get their number for you so you can check them out if you want.  Oh, never mind---just noticed you are in Oakland Co. so I'm sure you will find a competent vet in that area.  :)

BTW, WPWP :)
