Pictures and Videos / Last Sunday in February 2022
March 03, 2022, 07:27:03 AM
Hello fellow Jeepers
This years last Sunday in February is a wrap. The difference this year is it occurred on Saturday, and our run founder and usual trail guide was no where to be seen! Jim Woodend,  Dave Gordon  and myself were the only attendees this year.  We first met up in Reed City for breakfast at the Seven Slot Grill, we then unloaded at Johnny's Market/ Shell station where 10 junctions with 131. Then it was a 10 minute drive to our first turn off the paved road where we covered about 60 miles of snow covered trails. At lunch we jumped back on paved roads to head to Luther Michigan for lunch at Loggers Landing and then back to the trails for a couple more hours. We jumped over to the Little Manistee Route  where we ended our ride near Baldwin michigan.

So I saw this place on tv today it's less than 6 hours from my house in Bedford, Kentucky. I couldn't get the website to come up but they have a Facebook page, it's 270 acres of rocks and hills. Thought this might be a trip for 2019.

Tech Talk / SkyJacker
June 12, 2017, 11:38:10 AM
so when I bought my Jeep some 6 years ago it had a SkyJacker lift kit installed on it. So when I replaced the steering link I bent at Windrock a while back, I bought the 1.25" diameter SkyJacker ($180.00)to replace the stock unit that was  on it.  Well this weekend on DI I hit a rock of some size with the said SJ link and broke it. Today I called SJ and told them what had happened and the rep. said if I was off-roading it was not covered under their warrantee... so I said that's all I need to know and I hung up.
This little rant is to declare a campaign to tell people who off-road not to buy anything with the SkyJacker brand.

End of rant thank you

Parts For Sale/Trade / New chip keys
September 29, 2016, 01:25:59 PM
I bought a pair of chip keys (for TJ/LJ) for the GC I've been working on of late and they were such a good deal I bought an extra pair so if there's anyone out there that only has one key but didn't want to pay dealer prices ($60) I'll take $10 each or $18 for the pair. Let me know I'll bring them to the meeting on Sunday.

The Lounge / Tow rigs and trailers

First off I think we need a new section with this title.

Well I learned a long hard (and expensive) lesson yesterday. I put all new brakes on my car hauler back in May and when I arrived at the camp ground for trail maint. I discovered smoke coming off my trailer axle hubs. apparently the brakes had been dragging for a while. I suspected there was some sort of ground issue causing the brakes to engage when the headlights came on so my quick fix for the trip home was to cut the taillight wire and for good measure the blue brake wire after all brakes and tail lights are not a requirement to get from point A to point B.
Now fast forward to last weekend I am getting ready for a run to MD to pick up a Grand Cherokee and go to my grand daughters birthday party so I need the trailer to bring the Jeep home and I thinks it might be nice to have trailer brakes in the Pa hills. So I decide to replace all the wiring instead of trying to find the problem. I put a all new taillight harness and a new wire from the plug to the brakes too, but as before the wiring R & R my brake controller is giving me a "short circuit" code when activated. Then I spend a couple hours checking and rechecking all my previous work ( no need to check the new brake assemblies right there new right ),with no success its late so I give up for the day. The next day at work I'm think about my conundrum and decide to go ahead and check the new brake assemblies....ahha I found the problem the wires are melted together at the magnets on the brake assemble I replace in May, so I runs over to Tractor Supply and gets me some more new stuff I throw $150 buck at the clerk as I run by and say see later. Well I'm not getting any short circuit code anymore , buuut there still not working like I think they should and now I hear that little humming noise coming from the brakes when the headlights are on same as before....its late I quit and go to bed. The next day at work I'm thinking again ( I do that sometimes when I'm at work) so I start Googleing and low and behold I find out that the Hopkins pigtail harness I bought ( it goes from the controller to the junction block under the dash) is not wired correctly so I do some more Googleing and find out how to repin the plug and fix this problem, by the way I bought a new $100 controller hoping that was the problem, nope.  Well the moral if there is one to this rambling story is that just because you bought it new from a reputable company it don't mean it's gonna work like it's supposed to.

PS
I spent about $300 to find out that there were 4 wires in the wrong place in a plug under the dash!!!!

Now off to Maryland for a birthday party.

Went to the Buggy builders show in Lansing today and spoke to some people from the Silver Lake Recreation Association, and I joined. Not much info yet but I do know they volunteer to work the gates at SLSD. You can also friend them on FaceBook...if you have a FaceBook page.
