i've seen this on a few other forums, so i'll start it in ours....
Today i decided to start with my TREs and drag link....it's all off of the JEEP and will be ordering tomorrow.
Also, pulled the vac motor off of my front axle...something not quite right. Found that there is no vac for the 2wd side of the motor...dug further and found that the vac switch on my tc has a broken port, oddly enough the port for 2wd....it's a $25 part, just need to swap it out....
Today I started looking for good condition AX-5's.
-Brandon
Sealed up my rear fender wells and did some touch up painting to my winch bumper.
Today I filled my xgay up with cheap $2.86 gas! LOL
ok where to start.
TODAY:
I finished the T-case install. I managed to break my new adjustable track bar. Got the rear track bar on finally and when i went to tighten the bolt at the axle it snapped with the impact.(realized i used wrong bolt) (it was junk bolt not the grade 8 bolt) Have to redo that now. Did my alignment today. Changed the fluids in t case and trans.
This past Thursday Friday and Saturday:
Changed out all the coils, control arms, shocks, relocation bracketsa for shocks and track bar, Electric fan,On board air, a pillar lights, painless fuseblock,Transfer case taken out and new one with SYE put in, High lift mounted,CB mounted, wires ran for front rock lights, rear back up light,a pillar lights the fan and the OBO(including the switches) Sway bar disconnects put on front and rear,35's put on. rear upper control arms refabbed to tilt the pinion.
I think thats about it for the last 72 hours. Next 72 hours should be the Body lift front track bar(after i get new parts for it) Fron and rear bumper.
Then i can finally get out and wheel again.
god damn you work fast. all i did was pick up a tail light, didnt even drive the sucker today
Hmmm... I sat here and worried about if my insurance is going to cover my damages... yeap...
Just finished the rear track bar, put in the flush mount tail lights and put on my liscense plate, and hook up the cb antenna. :D
i chiped of all the mud from the suspenion left over from offroad unlimited's event (stuff was like cement) regreased every thing sprayed down the u bolts to get ready for the spring over conversion oh and pulled the seats and lubed all the tracks and re drilled all the wholes and rebolted them in
Installed OEM-sized steering damper on the LJ. Pulled the front track bar - the bolt has too much play in the bushing and the bracket I think. Reassembled everything and hit it with spray paint so I can see if it is moving around.
Sold my axles, seat, and some misc YJ stuff, one guy came and drove my YJ - no offers yet.
Ive got you all beat !! I just looked out my window to make sure mine was still here LOL
Quote from: "NewRide"Ive got you all beat !! I just looked out my window to make sure mine was still here LOL

I looked out the window.. and couldn't find my jeep.. *tear* :(
-Brandon
Today, I drove my jeep to the bank, then to the insurance office and then to work!

i ordered parts.....
I opened the last 2 boxes of parts.
I'm fixing the superficial damage from Marv's rock course. Note to self: LINE-X is a great product, HOWEVER, it won't stand up to hard rock hits.
hey i drove pams does that count i did do a burnout but dont tell her ;) oh and i walked past mine today
ok i felt guilty for not working on it so i went out after my post and put a sound bar in (thank you neil by the way) and wired up some led's inside the tailgate area. I got sick of not seeing my tools!
Ok today i got front track bar on, new headlight put in, head light bezels blacked out, body lift installed. Tomorrow i will get the bumpers put back on and the tires dismounted, cleaned out and remounted/balanced. Then i believe i am done.
I think i am almost done finally.
lets go wheeling than!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vassar this weekend?
It would have to be Sunday late afternoon for me as of right now.
Ok back on topic. I put front and rear bumpers on, wired in a amp, finished body lift stuff, put winch on. Drove it of the garage finally.
sweet now lets get it buried to the headlights break it in wlb style!
Sounds good to me. I am going to try my best to get out Sunday with you guys.
Ok today. Got tires put on and rebalanced. Wired pressure switch for air tank, put soft top on. Got pissed because the fuse for my electric fan keeps popping on me. Got to dig into that soon before going wheeling.
cleaned the inside welded more tow hooks on the yj pulled of the track bar on the zj found out one of the pass. side bolt holes are oblonged had to blindly arc weld a nut on the back side of the mount was a pain but jt worked
Yesterday I worked on a Jeep!
Took steps off Neils sweet new Jeep. Then helped him get the soft top on...
-Brandon
i drove it, then i strung my emptys up the anttena
Still waiting for a track bar for the LJ to show up in the big brown delivery truck.
Fixed the electric fan from blowing fuses. Order a new transfer case bracket. (to eliminate the dang body mounted one). Thats it for today.
Running out of things to do.
spent a half hour rinsing mud of the zj's front axle gave up stuck the sprinkler under it . we got a nasty noise in the front axle and leaking gear oil up there too when i can see it all mudless i'll fix it i diddnt think she could get it that muddy with those crappy tires
ruined my RMS this weekend (got a tampon under it right now in the garage)....will check a couple of things but will probably droppin' the pan and puttin' a RMS before Oct

Thats a understatement Brian
its pretty ridiculous (damn i suck at spelling)
i was gonna try and drive it, see if it had dried up at all, but i didnt want to brake down, AAA knows me too well already
hey do you still have the rubber peice or front skidplate that goes right there it keeps most the water from getting in the alt but that skid also acts like an ancor when your backing up in the deep mud i learned that the hard way with my first mj
i cleaned more mud of her zj had to dissasemble the front brakes the fins on the brake rotors were packed solid with mud and sea shells and rocks ha ha i now have a 2 inch coating of that crap covering the drive oh and i replaced a broken sway bar link she thinks she's one the dukes
LJ - installed the new track bar. So far no DW
YJ - reinstalled the front track bar w/relocation bracket. Going to Lansing for a GLFWDA meeting tomorrow and meeting up with a guy interested in the YJ, but he is new to Jeeps so I thought maybe the track bar was a good idea.
Hey Paul ... since I don't think I'll be working tomorrow night ... When you leavin ? I might be able to tag along if thats kewl !
Looks like you might be working after all!
Leaving Grand Blanc around 4:15 - the meeting is GLFWDA E-Board, open to all members.
swaped my top
(//img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/bigblock460/P2250087.jpg)
I hooked up the winch and fixed the 2 stripped body bolts.
put gas in it, and dusted off the cob-webs
Lowered the asking price on my Jeep, started taking off all of the little goodies I was going to include w/sale.
Went to the dealership and found the new Jeep for Deb....now just need to rob a bank.
Yelled at my Liberty for popping yet another check engine light.
pulled the transfercase on the zj (what a pain in the #%&!&&&!!!!) swaped the input shaft from the 249 to the 231 that sucked put a new tailpipe on it too oh and removed the hard top on the yj for tomorrows vassar fun!!
drove my jeep, picked up new 3-3.5" leaf packs.
worked on ddeadserious' xj, longarm install, well we got the front tore down at least
installed the transfercase now i'm fooling with the linkage i now have to fab a longer one yippie !!
hitched up the tach and took the pups for a spin
i am begining to hate her jeep front spider gears are wasted
I drove mine to work. Does working on the jeep trailer count at all?
I drove mine home.. well... a few days ago. I keep thinking about tearing off the fenders and painting them... but I'm worried once I get them off they'll never go back on (as is 3 of them are kinda torn off from wheeling on the ATV trails at the mounds).
-Brandon
in gettin the tranny done
I put the top back on again. :D
Quote from: "longarm"I put the top back on again. :D

o.O!
Today I actualy got to sit in my Jeep. I stuffed some 35s under it and had to dig through the crap inside to find my locklug wrench.
replaced all the rear brake stuff on the yj welded the spider gears some more
started building a recevier hitch for the storage rack
Finished installing my steering box brace
took the top & doors off (wednesday) and wend for a great drive. Also mounted the CB antenna on my new bumper.
went and got some tires :D 33/10.5/15- bfg mt
and a spare 33/10.5/16-tsl bogger
got trackbar relocation brackets and rode in Doug's jeep. LOL
Put my new transfercase bracket on and drained the tranny to refill it.
Drove it (to Rocky's ....hi Cody!!)
it's been a while
finished the brakes up on the yj welded the reciver hitch the rest of the way and applied some spray bedliner on the bumpers then we decided to bring the zj too so i had to tear into the rear suspension found some bad sway bar bushings now i'm waiting on parts i'm supposed to be leaving at 4:00 pm tomorrow
well this weekend i had to replace the coil on the zj at our cabin had to drive an hour to gaylord to get came back replaced it and jeep still wouldnt start luckly the van had the same kind of coil so i tested the new coil on the van. still didnt work so we had to go back to autozone and replace the new one again made us 2 hours late to meet the club in west brance for the trail ride.
oh and on the way up the yj lost a drivers rear tine while tow baring it the freaked us out but we were able to retrive most of the brake parts and brake drum from the middle of the road the lugs had loosened up letting the wheel come off so i had to wrench on that saturday morning
then amber's xj had the engine and trans loosen up from each other and was seperating when the clutch was pressed so we had to fix that too
but we did have a great time did alot of shooting and a good bit of wheeling also
looked at it sitting at the bottom of the drive, then dreaded wrenching on it just to sell it
Which one!!! I bought (for my wife to wheel) a 3rd jeep (xj) today!! :D
Put a new Throttle body from a 4.0 on mine yesterday. Thanks Paul for the help.
mounted my winch with the help of steve (thanks)
Started fabbing my Rock rails tonight. maybe get them done tomorrow.
I am making them differant from the last ones. I am incoprating a step this time for Allison mainly ( and my old ass).
So far today, got the brake lights to work, and the key unstuck out of the ignition. The ignition is fully functional now. Rear carpet is removed also.
Went wheeling at a friends house
readjusted my choke , now it take one pump to start my Jeep not 3 lol
made a set of shackles for the yj made them to long looks like 4 inch or more oh and put a 3 inch ad leaf in on the front. only had time to do one today now i need 35's :D
Did some touch up painting.. painted some of the rusty screws and various little accents on my jeep black... made it look much nicer.
Added a 2TM sticker to my windshield. :)
Went to the car wash, got a super wash and wax. Took everything out of the interior and scrubbed all the dirt and mud loose then vacuumed it all up.
Aired up all four tires. Front left and rear right were still perfect -- at 45. Front right and rear left were both deflated to 20... wtf???
Refilled all fluids, hooked up my rear windshield wiper and solvent line (damn connector keeps coming loose on the wiper).
Fixed leaking tranny cooling line.
Bleached the remnants of egg off my rear window. Someone egged it well it was sitting in the street in front of my house.. I'm not very happy about that.
-Brandon
finished the 3 inch lift got it pretty leveled out back still is a little higher by about a inch looks good now i wont be hitting the bump stops or rubbing the flares :)
Put a new rubber gasket on between my hardtop and the windshield.. its now ten times quieter on the freeway, and it doesn't whistle!
Topped off all my fluids. My power steering fluid wasn't even registering on the dipstick.
Just got back from taking it on its first freeway run. Just making sure everything is good for our family trip up to Port Austin tomorrow. Everything felt as solid as can be.
See everyone at the meeting Sunday! My dads looking forward to his first meeting too..
-Brandon
installed some sway bar disconnects and pulled the radiator to patch a leak , replaced the leaf spring clamps oh and ran it out of gas again i really need a gauge
Replaced nastacular air filter, replaced wind shield wipers, put gasket maker on the distributer cap, and broke off half of the housing for one of the screws, but tightened it down anyway, so far, it's holding.
I put it to work pulling a large tree stuck in a Y of another.
Atta girl Alice.
Lets see, I woke up a couple hours early. I went out, took my Jeep to the car wash. I think went and bought some spray-on bed liner, redid my bumper, painted my hinges and the part of my fender around the front blinker/running light. Looks good but I will pry do another coat here before to long.
Cleaned the windows, and mounted the "dash" cam!! :D
resoldered the crack in the radiator and installed the longer rear shocks
fixed it :finger:
Drove it 350 miles in the past couple days. Wheeled a little too up north.
Finished breaking in my tranny. :) I now have 700 miles on it.
-Brandon
put a window in it
then other shit to get it ready to sell. and considered settin it on fire
Quote from: "94_xj_country"considered settin it on fire
You too? My Jeep has gotten to the point where its easier to tell what ISN'T leaking then what is..

Quote from: "JEEPSALESGUY"Spent a strait hour power washing all the mud off from yesterdays fun. It was well worth it! :D
diddo, :D but worth it
i did the same...still have some mud on it but it's a jeep :D
on the down side, came home tonight to a completely flat tire (right front). I heard it leaking when we were messing around with the trans yesterday afternoon / evening.
Filled it up when we got to harleys last night and it held until some time this afternoon...had to beat a socket onto the wheel locks on my spare
Longarm, what do you think the boys will do for me at discount t??
John, I got a buddy who owns 2 tire shops. If your thing of a new set let me know!
John, you probably just poped the bead. In that case, take it down there and tell them that your leaking air and you need it fixed. You should already be in their computer system. If it's non repairable, they should replace it for ya. Just talk to Darwin at the Burton Discount Tire if you have any problems. He knows you bought the tires from me and the warranty was completely transferable. Any further problems, please let me know.
roger that mitch....
will advise as to my progress (when i have a chance to go see darwin)....
thanks
nothing @ all!! That means I've went yet another day holding on to my beloved cash :!: :!: :D
I detailed the inside of my LJ today. It looks showroom new again. I also RTV'd the small drain holes and reinstalled my large drain plugs. Now, a little water like Vassar won't bother me. The water shot up those small drain holes like a geiser. Next is to finish washing it up and pull it in the back garage to get touch up paint and sealcoated for the winter.
took apart the carb to fint the primary jets rolling around loose in the float bowl so i am changing it to the smaller cfm one
Wheeled it like I stole it! And got some video of a new land rover on a dealer plate buried in a mud/water hole at the mounds!
Installed an amp and sub, both of witch I got for free!
-Brandon
My bumper is fixed now thanks to Harley. Now, today, I will drill out the reciever to be able to hook it our right. Why Rock hard 4x4 bumpers are that way, I have no idea. I will say though that the owner stands behind his products 100%. Mt bearings were toast in the spare tire carrier. He sent me new races, bearings, and a cap for free with free S&H.
Thats the kind of service everyplace should have.
Quote from: "Nosilla"Thats the kind of service everyplace should have.
Isn't that the truth.
I heat gunned my fenders.. they look great... !
-Brandon
Put a new tranny cooler line on. Finally doing this after having the new line for like... 3 months.
-Brandon
took off front bumper corners
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=431 (http://www.whatliesbeyond.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=431)
Power washed too many pounds of mud off it ( $5.00 spent after the mounds on Saturday not included ) plus, power washed the engine, as well as the tow strap (it hasn't had that kind of abuse yet).
Put my front trackbar bracket on, the rear looked like a nightmare so I didnt attempt that. I also got my tensor pully bolt and block on so it dosnt squeel anymore, I dont think it was my alt.
PB Blasted the front seat bolts on the xj, also removed multiple trim panels. Next step is to remove the front seats & carpet!
Over the last few days i built painted and installed the new rock rails w/steps for the little one. Removed fender flairs, sanded, repainted. Popped out the big dent that i had.
Tomorrow i think it is time for fluid changes to be ready for the rose city run.
Neil, you have any pics of the new rock rails?
No but i can take some today.....Pics will be up later.
nothing yet today, but yesterday was full of excitment! I think I fixed my death wobble. My toe in was about an inch and a half off. Thanks to PB Blaster and a BFPW (the PW stands for Pipewrench) I got the tie rod adjusted. I also straighted my steering wheel out with the same BFPW. I made a handle keeper for my HiLift out of a peice of foam and some left over brush on bed liner.
I got my Sirius hooked up. No static, sounds perfect, and I can still remove it and take it inbetween cars. WHOOOO HOOOOO! :D
still preparing to sellllllllll
Whew! What a long couple of days swapping the POS BA10 out for the AX-15!
First, thanks Clyder for helpin' me drop the danged thing Thursday (yeah i owe ya a few hrs helping finish the kids' playset
Second, thanks Nosilla for riding out to K-zoo to pull the f'in thing out (sure, it would have been easier with reverse torx, but heck, it's always fun to struggle for a couple hrs :D ). Also thanks for the hand today helping me get it back in (as well as the scorching deal on the clutch and pressure plate).
Third, thanks Ouchman for helping neil and i as well as stickin' around an helpin' me get the rest of the crap back back on (exhaust sux), bleeding the clutch and the start of the tool recon. Sorry about the whole back flip in the jeep as the seat wasn't bolted in
Thanks alot guys, i couldn't have done it without you... Trans is 1000% better than the pos that was in it. Looks like i'll make it to the rose city run after all

I got stuck 3 times today out at the Mounds. Got pulled out all three times by Chris. Coated the inside of my Jeep with mud. Bought gas cans and gas for Chris's CJ and one of the gas cans, although tightened all the way down, leaked about a gallon of gas into my Jeep, which got all over several things in the back.
Mud, from my tow strap, got all over my sub, amp, 2 coats and a sweatshirt, and all sorts of things in the back. My steering wheel is coated in mud.
Needless to say I've got a shit ton of cleaning to do, and I don't even plan on looking at my Jeep for a few days..

Fixed my seat problem with Gorilla Tape and seafoamed my engine.
What was broke Matt?
The sheet metal on the side was bent and twisted, and a bolt broke off my track. Easy fix, I just cant move the seat forward or backward anymore.
Lets weld in some supports for it or something.
I took off my shourd and belt driven fan. I also ghetto fabed a bracket to hold my power steering and coolent reservoir. Tommorow I might start unbolting things, like the alt, just to make the swap that much less work. I get bored sitting at home :-P
Call me tomorrow Cody. Maybe we can go down and pick up the wifes rig and bring it over. Maybe right after lunch so i can just drop it back off to her on my way to work.

And I thought it was coming over here yesterday.
patched the fuel tank leak again and bolted in some bilstien shocks on the rear oh and figured out a temporary heater system i hate the van in this weather it is worthless in the snow ::ouch::

yep, drove it for the 1st time in awhile today, must have gotten used to my truck because damn is that thing small
Replaced my silly body-mounted tcase shifter mount with a tcase-mounted system. Very nice, smooth as butter (now that Neil walked me through the adjustments) and the part was less than $40 shipped. If you have a balky TJ Tcase shifter, or a body lift, MML or tcase drop kit installed, you NEED one of these brackets!
finally replaced the drivers flare marker
$9 and some change w/discount
Hey Paul does this mean you can shift into 4wd now ::poke::
watched my gas tank leak again i'm tired of patching it

Figured out my loud squeak in my engine bay is from the pulley on my alternator. Decided I'm going to replace that, the water pump, and put in an electric fan all at the same time.

I changed my oil and installed my new Sony Marine grade Radio ::woot:: ::woot:: This way when I power wash the inside again it will last LOL. Also for those of you that might be thinking of upgrading your speakers . All Polk speakers are marine grade { i.e. waterproof }
i gave it a kick while i walked by, not much else
Towed out a Chevy Avalanche (buried past the axles, and yes it was a Z71) with the wife's Commander. Gotta love a Jeep and a good tow strap!!! :D
Get my new used tires mounted on my new used wheels.
nothin, no more jeep
I replaced all the tie rods and had a Alignment done to it.
kicked it, cused at it, looked at it, moved a few things and said "screw it" and left.
Put in a new thermostat, put on a new front passenger side sway bar link (with a lifetime warranty!). Installed a new rear wiper.
-Brandon
well today i put a connecting rod through the side of the engine block in the yj ::ouch:: ::gay::

Looked at it sitting in the garage, yet another day passes!
Ripped of my bumpers, slathered on some more bed liner, put em back on, and put on some super bright BAJA lights!

Picked up a used bumper from a buddy for my YJ, cleaned it up, painted it, hanging in garage at work. No D ring mounts, tow points or winch plate holes, but it was cheap. Will install monday and show pics. Now I just need to find a worth while rear bumper.
You need a rear bumper huh? I know these guys that own there own fab business, there called //www.jpfaboffroad.com Look em up, I'm sure they will give you a good deal.
Yah i bet they could hook Yager up. :)
Heh, good plug mitch, but they'd be my first stop if I had any money. Unfortuanately, we're house shopping. :-/ so.
actually started to get something done today..replaced the broken ccv elbow in the v.cover..also fixed the broken vacuum line going to the cruise control..spent a lil while loading her up with wheeling stuff and tools for tomorrow and then spent some more time attemting to locate my annoying vacuum leak type whistle that only sounds off when i am off the throttle coastng in drive put her in park and it sputters away..my fixes lessoned its decibel level but its still there..i am thinking the broke booster is the source so that next weeks project...this 2000 is starting to nickel and dime me to death..
RLTW,
Grifter
you were suposed to dent it tomorow karl
pushed it outta the garage this morning...danged thing wouldn't crank ::ouch::
Had the charger on it all nite and this morning still nuthin'.
I tried jumping it with my truck, still no good. I tried the battery out of my ranger...still wouldn't crank...just a click.
Messed with it for a little while longer and finally jumped acrossed the solenoid with a screwdriver and it cranked and finally started ::woot:: Let 'er warm up and then put in the big bay of the garage so i can start turnin' some wrenches on it...
I'm pretty sure i need a solenoid, and i'm sure i've needed a new battery since this past fall ::trout:: .....
Should be ready to roll by spring ::Jeep::
missed it real bad at the mounds
I got six and half out of seven bolts removed from my manifold. Tommarow I'll get the throttle body and label the multitude of sensors.. That's right, six and a half. Half of the center bolt above the middle exhaust port is still in the block. I'm hoping torquing the others down will solve it. If not, I will call in support from various shade tree mechanic buddies in exchange for beer and pizza.
Well... last night I bought a gaterback belt to stop the pissed off squarls' screaming, worked great! Then I did something stupid while hooking my fan up like making a ground short with a pretty heavy gauge wire and then my jeep wouldn't start, it turned over but didnt start, then it started to read No Bus on the odometer...
Traced it down today with a multimeter, had 3 fusible links blown a 3 minibus fuses.... replaced then and Ol' Blue is purrin' once again.
Became it's newest owner, bout time- worked on it enough already ;)
I got the intake and exhaust manifolds off.. Only to realize, the exhaust doesn't have a gasket on my 95. The gasket autozone gave me covers both, so I'm kind of thinking of using it anyway, it would fit, and hopefully provide more sound dampening. I also discovered that once I removed the exhaust manifold that a 1/8th of an inch of my broken bolt is exposed, which cheered me up immensely. Hopefully wednesday night I'll have "Blood" back on the road (affectionately named for it's taste for my knuckles and it's color, red btw, not rust).
Got my new rear lights mounted and wired up - no more blind trailer hookups in the dark! Got to use my winch yesterday too - 'Burb was stuck solid in 4" of frozen mud in the backyard.
Got my new JP fab rockrails on the JK.
Thanks Neil and Paul.

found and fixed my fuel sending issue, it ended up being the very back injector was leaking pretty bad. w00t.
I put the differential carrier back in, Aussie installed. Just need to button everything back up and get it back on the road!
put in a "new" starter...thanks Tony!!
adjusted drag link to fix my steering...
wheeled it at vassar!!
::woot:: Got my CV joints replaced and found out why i keep getting "bad vibes" while driving.
Took it out for a test drive - locker is nice and quiet, so far so good.
Great to hear paul. I here the aussie is a nice unit for the money. I plan to do 1 this year as well. Now i know who can help install it :)
Northridge4x4.com - $249 delivered.
Ran around town a bit today, front diff felt nice and cool so I am assuming everything went back together the way the said it would. Now I need to replace the u-joints in my spare front axle shafts so I can go play!
have you put it in 4x4 yet?
yes - but my backyard has about 1" ice over everything, so not really a good test. Need to go get it dirty before they close the Mounds.

changed the oil in both my front and rear diffs. ::gay::
Finally got a full-size spare. Mike over at Delta Tire worked some magic and found me a matching 33x10.50x15 BFG AT sitting in a wharehouse somewhere out west.
But it doesn't fit too well on the stock tailgate mount, even after the 3rd brakelight "fell' off.
Kind of too much weight for the tailgate too, isn't it? Or do you have a drop down one or something?
From my understanding, after awhile of that 33" spare on the back it will eventually rip the sheet metal of the tailgate and come right of due to the weight. I know these guys at //www.jpfaboffroad.com/ who would be able to whip something up for ya though. The prices are real good too. ::woot::
It's only a 33x10.50 AT on an alloy rim, so not too much more weight than a stock steel rim and 29" tire. Besides, my tailgate is already busted from that tree that jumped out into the trail last year near Muskegon.
I got a price quote from the guys at JPFab that was very attractive despite my very particular list of needs/wants/desires. Unfortunately on the home front a bumper/tire carrier is in the wants/desires category, not "needs", so it isn't getting much traction. Especially since I just invested a bunch in tools and supplies to start doing my own welding.
measured it for a rear bumper
I bought a Wilson 1000 CB antennae! I can talk to cody from my house now!!
I parked it outside yesterday in the rain to wash off the Vassar sand.
Washed a thick, green layer of Georgia pollen off the hood from it sitting for a week while we were gone.

replaced the dash with a cj5 dash oh and last week i changed the tailgate to a cj7 one i'll post pics soon
drove it home from silver lake
Drove home from teh dunes! :D
Got mine muddy.
Broke my shifter
I let mine sit in the driveway and get rained on the past couple days.. oh, with a steady stream of power steering fluid coming out of it too...
Anybody got a spare steering gear laying around I could buy off 'em?
-Brandon
I moved mine so I can get other stuff out of my garage. couldnt run it long since I still havent got around to replacing my radiator.
did some rewiring and identified the engine block it is a 318 mid eighty's block
drove it to the fireworks
Drove it to work... ::ouch::
one more day's worth of $3.98 gas in the tank.... THANK GOD!!!
Drove down to Unlimited Offroad to visit my Jeep. Took it for a spin with someone else's tires on it. Still wiggle-wobble in the steering wheel. Getting a new adjustable track bar & alignment today. Jason said stop being a pussy and just drive it - "it's a Jeep thing". OK he didn't come out and say it, but I think he was thinking it! Jason is a good guy, puts up with my whining.
I haven't driven mine in a few days.. Just sits in my driveway and leaks steering fluid.

you shouldn't notice it in 2 wheel should you?? On a YJ anyways.
Quote from: "Nosilla"you shouldn't notice it in 2 wheel should you?? On a YJ anyways.
you are correct sir...it make absolutely no difference in 2wd.
but the manual says to try it out in 4wd (i will assume 4h) on the road to see how it handles....says to go
extra slow around curves...from what i see i believe it!!! ::ouch::
FInally swapped out the spacers and stock springs in the rear this weekend - the new springs have been sitting under my work bench for almost a year, better late than never.
Tried to start it, battery was dead. pulled battery to put on trickle charger, noticed I have a leak someplace ,since I havent been in it in a while had a nice mess on the floor, sprayed it out and vacumed the mud from the last trip (quite a while ago now). sprayed out the hornets nest in my mirrors and picked the rest off from inside the doors. though about making a spot to actually fix the thing.
discovered the engine mount had torn from the frame doing doughnuts in 4wd led to this i'm sure :D so i spent the day welding the frame back together (//i100.photobucket.com/albums/m13/prentiss_01/icon_welder.gif)

I definitely won't sneak up on anyone with these, they sing a lovely tune. A little rough around the edges, but they are just for play time, not everyday. They are a smidge smaller than my AT's (32.3" vs 32.5"), but not enough to make a difference.
Anybody want to go play in the mud this weekend?
those should make a difference
I guess no more mall terrain jokes for Paul.
i also put tire on my jeep, low on tread, but wider ::Jeep::
got silly with the plasma cutter removed the useless track bars front and rear should flex much better now ::woot::
Drove thru most of the flooded out roads north of town, that was fun!!
scheduled a date to R&R my toasted trans....RIP little guy ::ouch::
On a lighter note, I did get to see it up on a rack this afternoon and survey the carnage from Saturday's rock course adventure in Kalamazoo. I really need to think about a different skid plate before I try anything like that again. Maybe some DOM lower caontrol arms too.
swapped out the d 35 with my 8.8 ::woot::

Update: If you ask me for a referral on transmission shops, I will now let you know yet another transmission shop I will not do business with again (coughCottmancoughcough). On a lighter note, my insurance agent, who also happens to be a customer at work, mentioned that my Jeep wasn't parked in its usual spot, so I told her the story. She suggested filing a claim under the comprehensive coverage on my insurance policy. They are going to cover 100% labor, 75% parts, less my $100 deductible! ::gay::
Nice......What did thy do wrong to your jeep?
Sorry to hear that, my brother had a heck of alot of trouble with the one here in town when they put the wrong type of oil in his rear dif... And they somehow managed to get the large magnet that collects metal fragments jammed up in the gears. This messed up his limited slip locker to a point where while he was turning, like at a stop light, his back wheels would lock up and he could not move forward.
To make a long story short, 6 months went by, during that time he tried contacting their corporate HQ...but they gave him the cold shoulder. After that, he traded in his truck to get his patriot.
Long story.....
I get the call from Cottman for the estimate - $2200 1 mo/1,000 mile warranty, just fix what's broke so I can sell it or $2500 3 mo/3,000 miles, fix it right or $2,700 6 mo/6,000 miles because I am keeping it and intend to abuse it more in the future. All options included fixing the trans and replacing a bad u-joint and the top option included a HD trans cooler. Last time I rebuilt a trans was 1986, a C4 cost me $350, so $2200 was a bit of a shock. I started making calls - dealer wanted $3000 3 yr/100k, rebuilt as stock (option 1 above). Phils Transmission said $1800 if it was out, 1 yr/12000 miles. So I called back and said "Hey your warranty sucks", they said no no you misunderstood - 2 yr/24,000miles, but it had to have the reans cooler for that warranty. OK, picked the $2700 option because I am not gentle. I go to pick it up, pay for it, start hooking it up to the truck, the guy comes running out - "say, brother, did we say we were going to put a trans cooler on that thing? We forgot, can you leave it?" Next day he calls, say "Oh, no can't put a cooler on that thing, we aren't body guys and you have to tear the whole grill out to do it. But you still get the warranty." So now I am really starting to nitpick - I can't figure out which u-joint they replaced, still have a rumble, they all look old and rusty, and it's not on my bill. My starter sounds all wheezy and whistly, did not do that before I dropped it off. And I have either a wheezy noisy transmission or an open vacuum somewhere, can't tell which when I am driving. I am due for a recheck next week, gonna have to have a talk with my "brother".
For those that weren't around, Semmens Transmission did the clutch on my YJ a few years back - took 4 trips and 2 tows back to get it right, and I still had to bleed the clutch myself! They also make the Paul's Top Ten A$$hats List.
holy crap man, i had the same problems with semmens. Took my old truck back in 3 times after a rebuild, and i had to have 'em tow me in two of those times. The third time, my trans was stuck in 1st from Davison out to the dang place. That was a looooong scarey drive.
After the 3rd time, i put the for sale sign on the window and then got my XJ.
got rid of my electrical problems

Quote from: "NewRide"Sure it wasnt your starter ??
tore it apart, cleaned all connections and double-checked the function of the solenoid, works like a champ...
the reason it wouldn't start is because of the ground.
the reason it wouldn't charge correctly was because of the alt..
not quite sure why it was running like $h!t ('cause it still ain't right)
But it'll start and move under its own power...

I finally brought her home after a week-long 1/2 day follow up visit to the trans shop.
1. Fixed a leak
2. replaced the U-joint they were supposed to replace when they rebuilt the trans
3. installed a HD trans cooler that was supposed to be part of my HD rebuild blah blah
4. reshimmed the starter (still sounds like it has asthma)
They wanted me to wait for it, I said I would leave it call me when they were done...that was a week ago this morning. Gggrrrrr.
You just think you have won. It is waiting for the opportune moment......
I didn't do anything to the Jeep but the dealership did. They put on new Lower ball joints (which was a recall item so that was free) and new bushing for the upper and lower control arms. Oh and they told me that we need a new right upper control arm again. We just had that done in early Aug and won't warranty it because the tires are too big for the lift and the lift is causing all the damage...
Do they make aftermarket control arms for a Liberty? A heavier duty piece might be cheaper than constantly replacing the stamped steel part.
I just went out to install my power steering hose that I had to warrenty because the other one broke, and relized the other one had a the sensor still attached... Went to Advanced but they had sent out their warently stuff today... DOH!! so now i have to find a way to block the sensor port...

Cleaned out my Jeep and now I'm using my ozone generator to de-stink the inside! It'll smell like new :D
Well it has been raining for a good three days so i decided to take my jeep through one of my favorite trials. It was wet, muddy and a blast. Then i got high centered on a Hugh log. I really need to buy a off road jack. I have some pics i will post them when i get some time
put my lift shackels on the front to compensate for the spring over when i put the 8.8 in the rear in the fall looks much better now
Not to the jeep but Mr. Capt. Tulip sold 300 of them this weekend. ::woot::

paul that d30 as got to be bent somewhere
i started to get my new cb goin, but ive run into issues, and now i've gotta go to work :(
Paul, you just can't catch a break can you? :o
DW was the result of a bad steering stabilizer....but why did my OME stabilizer die after 2 years? Still some underlying problem that the stabilizer only masks I think.
Added pins for my sway bar disconnects, no more zip ties
Drilled and bolted the final fastener for steering box skid
Washed all of the mud off, inside and out. I love the Mounds. ::ouch::
I worked on my Junk over the weekend. The motor is prepped and ready to drop in. The 2.5L I picked up is nice, everything is brand new on it, water pump, oil pump, head gasket, all the seals and gaskets, and its bored 60 over. w00t w00t!
Hoping to drop it in Wednesday.
great to hear cody its about time !
Old motors out, hopefuly dropping the new one in tommorow :-)
Got mine back from the transmission shop today - bad TPS and bad fan clutch, OBD2 threw a code saying my trans has exceeded 240 degrees at some point, but the fluid was still happy, full, and pink so they think it's OK. Apparently even though my engine only got hot the one time, the trans must be suffering much more due to the bad fan clutch.
i called victor george, they were looking at it when i called ::ouch::
Cleaned up the rest of the mud from the Mounds on Sunday. I think if I have a few more trips bringing home this much mud, the mounds may have a shortage. Man that was alot of mud under there!!!!!
pulled it on the trailer so the code officer (wannabe cop ) will stop whining

I thought I had it all cleaned up until I popped the lid Tuesday night and found more mud on the inside in some very strange places.
She purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr'd! In class right now, but after I get out, I am fixing the coolent leak, hooking the driveshafts up and it will be ready to get the 09 tags and insurance tommorow.
Replaced the clutch slave cylinder and drove it around the block :-D

x2 great weekend ::Jeep::
Got my spare tire relocator bracket on and have my speedo gear to go in tomorrow. Also got the bumper back in the right location. Not a bad amount of work after putting in a full day at the job.
I drove it to/from work and now im tired.
Got all of the new pieces and parts for my new winch assembled. My old one died somewhere in a puddle in Kalamzoo last fall, so I took all of the leftovers (cradle, f/r cables) and added a new lighter weight winch (T-Max 9,000# "Competition") with a synthetic rope (80' AmSteel Blue) and aluminum fairlead. Knocks about 35-45 pounds off of the package, making my Jeep a lot less nose-heavy. Had to make a little adapter plate to mount the narrow 6" fairlead to the 10" center-to-center opening on the cradle.
(//i98.photobucket.com/albums/l269/phittie1100/Photo_06.jpg)
I didn't realize it until I was putting it all together that it also has a wireless remote control. It works well, but there is a lag between hitting the button and getting a response. There is also a lag between letting go of the button and the winch stopping, so it will take some getting use to.
No more busted nuts getting it on and off the Jeep!
Cleaned mine a bit, washed the tires, flares, dash, seats and rollbar. Not much hope for the outside :-P
Found out why I had DW, about an inch of side to side play in my front pass. ujoint. Pulled the shaft and got it at the shop being pressed right now.
Lenghtened my sway bar links slightly. Smoothed out the ride a little bit. Now it rides like a tractor instead of a bulldozer.........I need shocks. :(
what did i tell you about those Rough country shocks?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Nothing wrong with Rough Country Shocks as long as you don't have any fillings in your teeth that you want to keep.
Everyone said the new 2.2 shocks rode so much better than the old ones and were raving about them. After riding on the new ones I think I would rather take a bullet to the head than try the old ones if these are a lot better. What were the old ones, solid steel pipe cut to length?

Use soft steel, they might be smoother. I see Bilsteins in my future......
Those cost to much IMO. I love the ride of my BDS shocks. They are $45.00 cheaper and are made in Michigan. With a life time warranty to boot.
Just my 2 cents.
the difference is huge though when i put them on my sandrail (10 years ago ) i replaced my koni shocks with the bilstiens they allowed me to hit way bigger jumps and survive my buddie had the same setup as i whith the koni shocks he could not keep up in the trails after the swap and the ride is still awesome on 10 year old shocks
Let see, I dropped lots-o-cash on mine today... Fed up with my sloppy front end...
Bought this:

I put my baby up on Autotrader today. I could f#*king cry right now. When it sells, Matt and I are going to have a funeral for it.

After listening to the wear wires drag on my disc brakes for a week, I stopped in at Advanced Auto this week and picked up rotors, pads and misc supplies. Spent all day yesterday cleaning the garage so I had room to work, and started after breakfast this morning. Pulled the front wheels....but the brakes were in good shape? I pulled everyrthing apart, right down to pulling the shafts to make sure the u-joints were good - nothing. I put it all back together again, rechecking everything again as I went. I couldn't find anything. I backed out of the garage, and the noise was still there.
About then it occurred to me that maybe I should have checked the rear disk brakes first......
changing the rear yoke and putting driveshaft back on. then driving back to owosso to change the ujoints in the front shaft and then a spark plug and whole tune up!! im so happy with my new yj!!
I changed the spark plugs, put in a new rear yoke on my rear diff, changed the ujoints for the rear driveshaft, changed plug wires, changed distributor cap and rotor, changed oil, filled up rear diff with axle fluid, changed radiator and forgot i gotta bleed the air out because there was an air pocket that wasn't letting the antifreeze get past the thermostat, changed thermostat, put seafoam and engine restore stuff in the crankcase and the vaccum hose. took me all of about 6 and a half hours!!! So my jeep is ready for the trails and for sundays meeting. All i need now is a new vaccum hose, and front driveshaft ujoints replaced!
fixed the thermostat leak and it stopped overheating!!! then i installed my cb radio and bought a clevis and reciver for my jeep and ordered 2 tow hooks off autobarn should be here in a couple days! ::woot:: ::Jeep::
Holy giant pictures batman!
Technically it was Wednesday btut I haven't been on lately. Replaced my cheap disconnects with some solid sway bar links. The clunking stopped. Unfortunately now that that noise is gone I can hear how bad the hard top squeak is. That is getting fixed this weekend hopefully.
Got some bar pin eliminators since I broke a bar pin, got my rear trackbar bracket on finally too. Next is front trackbar, front spacers, rear sway bar links, new shocks and a body lift.
What brand BPE did you go with matt? I got the JKS ones and love them!
Quote from: "Gr8archer"What brand BPE did you go with matt? I got the JKS ones and love them!
Sadly I didn't even think to ask. Unlimited found a pair that had just come in on a shipment they were unboxing when I called them and I told him to hang onto them for me. I had them pop them on as it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to busy of a day for me to tackle it. Had them weld up my rear trackbar bracket while it was there too. They usually recommend JKS stuff so that is most likely what it was. I will have to look at the receipt. It was done in 2 hours on Wednesday at 1:00 when I dropped it off and I was so tied up with everything else that I didn't make it back out until Thursday to get it. Been a crazy week around here.
Thank God - finally past Paul's jumbo pictures!
I didn't do anything to my Jeep this week - I just drove it. For the first time in 2 years, no wiggle in the steering wheel, no death wobble, no nothing. Steering is still a little jittery, think I will have my toe set to 1/8" out the next alignment, it worked well in the past. But since the final round of track bar adjustments at UORC (and a new rear adjustable track bar), I haven't hated my Jeep. Long trips, short trips - on the road, off the road - no complaints. I have bad right ball joints again, and a bent right front LCA (damn rocks!) but I am reluctant to mess with anything right now, this is the happiest I can ever remember being with my Jeep since i inherited it from Mrs PHittie.

Woot, glad your wobbles gone Paul! ::woot::
If it comes back Paul, it has to be the All Terrains. My last set were horrible for DW and as soon as I took them off it was gone and didn't come back.......until I broke my track bar. ::ouch::
Measured for rear shocks and ordered them today. I keep bottoming out hard after adding the BPE's and the RC shocks having such long bodies. BDS going on this weekend in the rear. Holding off on the fronts for now. $ for Jeep parts is getting low.
No shocks this weekend. They will be in Monday. Couldn't find a combo we liked that would work properly so thanks Jason at Unlimited BDS building a pair with custom valving for the rear of the LJ. ::woot::
Thank God - finally past Paul's jumbo pictures!
hey be nice i have cable internet they where fine on my computer bunch of whiners!! ::poke::
Today the front BDS shocks and rear sway bar links went on. No more rear end clunking from my cheap disconnects trying to come apart. Also found out what the mysterious front end pop under acceleration is. The lower left front spring cup has some nice wear on it from a spring rubbing. Not quite sure how I am going to resolve that particular issue as it is a new one to me. :?
When I went to Indiana a couple of weeks back, I called it quits after I kept hearing some awful crunchy noises from the right front. After I crawled underneath it, I found so much play in the left u-joint that I wonder why it didn't pop. Theright side seemed OK but was still making noise in 4wd. Pulled it apart tonight and replaced the totally trashed u-joints on that side too. So my lifetime warranty u-joints lasted 104 and 106 weeks. respectively. I need to start buying stronger parts I think.

I got Ed Skid Row offroad skid plates for the lower control arms, evap canister, and front chassis. Then Ed ordered rock rails. The rock rails came today at 1:40 pm and it was taken to unlimited offroad to have everything put in place. Merry Christmas and Happy birthday honey! I'm sure there will be pics to come soon. ::Jeep:: ::woot::
Yes, I had asked for some of the Sid plates for X-mas and then found the rails at 40% off on 4WD.com, so I ordered those. When I got home yesterday, Julie had snuck out and had eveything installed. Very nice surprise - I am very happy... Just need the Engine skid to have total protection at this point, but at least that pesky evap canister is protected and the lower control arms that took a beating on the mounds rock course. The guys at UOR did have to weld the passenger side rail to the frame. Here are some pics:

Lookin good Ed! ::woot::
glanced at it as i got into my road boat to head off to work
Not today but over the course of the last few days since I have been off. Got my JKS adjustable trackbar installed, alignment is done, stripped the paint off my rock sliders and refinished them with bed liner. Also removed my rear tire carrier as the tailgate couldn't take it anymore. As soon as the taxes come back it is time for a new bumper and tire carrier. I can't put it off any longer.
well saturday i finally got my jeep on the road from working on it since wednesday swapping axles and changed rear main...but it still leaks oil? :( im taking it in next week since im tired of messing with the oil pan lmao
ok last week i made a shackle reversal kit today i changed the t case made a new rear driveshaft and have to shorten the front one and do a belly up crossmember
Finally completed the installation of my new bumper last night. When my tailgate stared to disintegrate again last fall, I tried installing the used '99 tailgate I purchased a couple of years ago, but started breaking off bolts inside the tailgate and finally set it at the curb. So just before Christmas I purchased a SRC tube bumper w/tire carrier - chosen because it was cheap (4wd Hrdwr was having a big sale incl free shipping) and despite being made in China is DOT rated as a Class 2 (3500#) towing device. It's fairly stout - 1/4" and 3/8" brackets, ties to the factory hitch mounts under the frame rails plus 8 bolts through the rear cross member. Because of the camper though (as much as 3800# loaded for a week), I ordered some Rockhard 4x4 frame tie-in brackets this week - it carries the outboard crossmember bolts back to two additional factory frame holes on each side using a 1/4" gusseted bracket, and has a 3rd hole to drill an additional frame hole if desired. I had to buy some longer bumper mounting bolts to get through all of the new brackets, and I added some over-sized Grade 8 washers where I could to spread the force out over more surface area. Looks over-engineered to the extreme, should be good to go. Plus the new bumper/hitch setup eliminates one of my most nagging clearance issues, my old Class 2 hitch. As an added bonus, the higher hitch mounting point on the LJ now matches the factory JK mount on Deb's, making it much easier for us to share the single adjustable draw bar mount we have that accomodates the torsion bars for our load-distributing hitch set up.
::gay::

I can't get over the quality of the pictures I get from my stupid phone. Not sure why I carry a camera in the Jeep any more?
Must be new bumper day. :D I have to get a pic of it all together after the Jeep gets a wash.

I am ready for the mounds Monday!
Finally got rid of my CB radio and wired Deb's to work in my Jeep. No more squeal, and according to Ed I am now allowed to participate in group activities again.
Installed a new always hot 12v power supply in the back seat of the LJ. Now there is limitless power available to charge iPods and Nintendo DSi game systems.
B&M universal trans temp gauge installed in the center console behind the transfer case lever. Nice unit, lighted, easy to install once I got brave enough to cut the trans line. Thanks for the help on the wiring Cody.
On our way this morning for new shoes. Nothing exciting, more BFG All Terrains, it's hard to argue with do-it-all traction, great on-road performance, and more than 46,000 miles despite the not-so-nice things I have done to them.
Haven't been on for a while but we recently got our family cage done.
The kids are excited ::woot:: because we are going to try to get a trip planned to Silver lake this year.
And I am happy they are a lot safer in the back seat.
Things to do yet: ::ouch::
Change out cracked valve cover
Change out damper shock
Change out oil pan

What motor you got in your CJ?
My CJ has a Str. 6 , 4.2L. But I would realy like to have a striker motor built. I have a second 4.2L and a 400 Chevy small block from an 70 something impala SS.
pulled my intake manifold and headers and the whole shitty exaust system to get ready for my new headers and exaust system from banks
The big gay light bar is finally gone. Jonathon says it looks like I gave the Jeep a haircut.
going to get my windshield hood fenders roll bar seat brakets and dash for my tj tub tomorrow!!!
"new" D30 swapped in finally. But I discovered the frame end on my track bar is shot. Rubicon Express warranties the track bar for life....except the heim joint on the frame end. In case you were counting, this is the third track bar in 78,000 miles that has worn out - factory, OEM replacement, and now RE.
i love my yj i dont have a track bar since i dont NEED one bc i got leaf springs the only way to go lmao
fixed the "BUZZZZZZZ" that my speekers were making. Replaced the blown power outlet fuse. Working on my fog-lamps tomorrow and also finding that mystery noise.

Hmm I am trying to think what I have in my TJ... I think its a factory unit, but if you want, we can pull it (held in by like 3 screws anyways) so we can have music for the trip lol.
