So, I need to find a place and some hands to help me swap out a running 2.5L into my non-running Jeep, because I have no idea what I am doing... Also, where would be the best place to find an oilpan because mine has a small hole in the middle of it.
So! whos up for the challange? It might not be for a couple weeks.
Thank You,
Cody
ill help if i can, when the pans off clean it and JB weld it :D
Quote from: "ouchman"ill help if i can, when the pans off clean it and JB weld it :D
I was thinking that, the hole is very small, about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen, and I can pound the quarter size dent back in and jb weld it... wouldnt be hard
well i will bring the engine and will help install it just tell me where and when
you could weld the hole up.
the pics are from a hole that was welded up and so far hasnt leaked. it also was welded in the jeep just had the oil cap off the engine and an extinguisher handy just in case.

Just wondering..................
If you have a new, running, 2.5............ wouldn't it have a good oil pan on it???
i dunno, maybe.... wasnt sure if thats part of the motor... like I said, I do not know much about motors and I don't claim to. lol.
Yep, the new one should have one. Then we'll weld the other one, and you'll have a spare.
the new one is complete from valve cover to oil pan ,intake,4.0 injectors , 4.0 throttle body, spark plugs, distributor, cap ,rotor, needs plug wires and we will have to change over all your power steering pump stuff and alt, no biggie though its all been off this engine before and i pretty much have it memorized
name a time and place ill try and get there

Cool, thanks Paul, sounds like a plan! My plug wires are lifetime warenty so I will pull em off and get some new ones before the swap.
Neil said we can use his but isnt sure if the 8 foot ceiling will work with the cherry picker, but if we take my tires off it pry wont be a problem. If we need a cherry picker, Brian said he would let us use his dads.
I am hoping to plan on doing this mid-week, Wensday and Thursday are my days off...
Thanks for all the offers guys! Everyone in this club is awsome!
if that doesn't work for you, don't forget that we have a kinda large barn with a cherry picker, wench thingee on the ceiling, and some other contraption that picks up really heavy stuff and lifts it up in the air.
Oh, and air tools and torches. I guess that makes things fun for guys... :)
Not sure what Chris' schedule is, but if he's good with it, you can always do things here. I personally don't care because I'm usually in the house :)
i got some 31s you can throw on it for now
Mel, your so funny. I just love how you always volunteer the barn to everyone. Seriously, it's great.
give me a date and time and we'll get er dun

well, I think it's silly for everyone to keep trying to scrimp around for a place then all the tools etc. that they may need to get a job done. Unless Chris just can't accomodate the space or time, it makes sense to do things here since most everything is already in one spot. Unless he has a big job coming up where the barn is full of sheet metal or his own rig is dismantled for one reason or another, may as well use up the space... :)
(not to mention that the barn is heated, has running water and a john, a full size fridge, AND cable tv.....it's a man's dream so I have been told.)

Well, dosn't matter... its pry gonna take a good part of the day... pry start fairly early.
I was just wondering as I might be able to swing by after work around 8am or so.

Ok! The Jeep is at Neils house now! I plan on going over there Tuesday night, after work, and I am gonna start pulling stuff. I am going to pull the bumper off so the stinger isnt in the way, pull the radiator so I can put my elect. fan on, and start unbolting the alternator and stuff like that.
Then hopefuly if I can get some people over wensday or thursday or both to help me start the engine swap, it would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Cody
Why pull the radiator??
To make mounting the electric fan that much easier.
I'll drop by tomorrow after 6PM to lend a hand, and Wednesday I am free all day.

I won't be available until later tonight. How late are you guys going to be there?
We got the motor out and on the floor in less than 4 hours. Right now I am at home, but I will pry go over later tonight and swap the flywheel and such onto the motor, swap the fuel rail, start stripping my old motor down to take to scrap.
Thanks to Doug and Matt for their help today, thanks to Neil for letting me spill coolent all over his garage and get his tools all greasy :-P

Good to hear Cody!!!
sweet cody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::woot::
Good News!! ::Jeep::
Now lets go wheel it !! ::Jeep:: ::Jeep::
got to drive it today, till it over heated. I need to wire up my fan, I need to figure out relays...
direct wire it Cody.
Quote from: "Harley"direct wire it Cody.
it blew my switch up when i tried that :(
Quote from: "Gr8archer"Quote from: "Harley"direct wire it Cody.

yeah cody, it depends on the amperage of your switch...if it's not 30-40A then you'd want to run it through a relay...even for direct wiring
Neil has the same fan, see what he did.
I by-passed the relay on mine, and haven't had an issue.
drove it to work today, ran great. On my way home, 2 blocks from home infact, it started running rough. I think its plugs, they wernt in the best of shape and my dad agreed that it sounded like it was missing.
