The Lounge / ORV Stickers??
April 03, 2009, 09:05:09 AM
All:

I heard a rumor the other day that Michigan requires ORV stickers on ALL offroad vehicles (that are indeed being used offroad) to include 4x4s (Jeeps, trucks, SUVs, etc) on the trails. Being a newbie to Michigan, this is the first I have ever heard of such a thing. Is this rumor true?? If so, where can I get ORV stickers for my Jeeps??

Thanks!

Chris

Hey guys! I wasn't sure what your "handles" were on here, so I thought this was the easiest way to track you down.

I know we talked about lifting my wife's Liberty in the next few weeks, but I totally forgot we are booked up this weekend and apparently the following weekend as well (apparently we are heading to the UP...news to me  ).

Anyway...my first available weekend is looking like the 21st. Again, though....I will work around your schedules. Just let me know when you guys will be available and I will have the Liberty there.

Again....I really appreciate this. I CAN'T WAIT until my tools are back!!

Thanks!

Chris

The Lounge / Jeep Jamboree at Drummond Island
February 26, 2009, 08:54:39 AM
Is anyone planning to sign up for the Drummond Island Jamboree this year? I am trying to talk the wife into it.

BTW: If our club is selected to provide trail guides, I will gladly volunteer my services  :D

Hey all!

Sorry I didn't make it to the meeting, but I ended up buying a Jeep on Sunday night. So now we have 3!!

It is an '88 Wrangler. The guy who had it before me put a bunch of work in it, so it was a good deal. I found it on craigslist in Midland...someone on here might recognize it:

I figured adding another Jeep to the family might be a good excuse to miss the meeting. I'll make sure I am at the next one....promise!

The Lounge / Finally got my date!
December 12, 2008, 03:42:24 AM
I am outta here on either Jan. 14 or 15 depending on flight availability, which should put me in Saginaw on the 16th! Of course, I still don't have a job yet...anybody want to hire an out of work Network Administrator with web design, PBX, wireless, and Motorola radio experience (with a TS clearance)?

I still haven't sold the Rubicon yet so it may be heading back with me...we'll see what pans out in the next few weeks.

Anyway...if anyone would like to trek to Saginaw for a beer on the 17th just let me know.

See you all soon!

Jeep Talk / Looking For A Good & Trustworthy Shop
October 29, 2008, 04:09:37 AM
Hey All!!

I need a little help while I am still stuck in Rwanda....

Melissa (my wife), whom some of you have met, is back in Saginaw while I am finishing up my tour in Rwanda. It has been confirmed that I will be heading back to the States in January  ::woot::  Anyway, Melissa's Liberty is having a bit of a tire issue and instead of her having to fool around with it, a better solution is in my mind. We have already bought a Rusty's 2" lift for it and were waiting until I got back to install it (I like to do my own work). But since she is having some issues with the stock tires, I was figuring if there was a good shop, she could take the Liberty and have the lift installed and throw some 31" BFG M/Ts under it. It makes more sense than throwing money into another set of stock tires when the stocks are coming off anyway, right?

So I am basically looking for a good, club affiliated shop, somewhat (but doesn't have to be next door) close to Saginaw. Someplace where they will not rip her off or take advantage and still do good work.

Does anyone have a reccomendation??

Thanks!

The Lounge / Thanks to Everyone!
August 11, 2008, 09:13:00 AM
Melissa and I have been back in Rwanda for about a week and a day now. We just wanted to thank eveyone for letting us participate in the July club meeting. We meet some really cool people and are impressed at where the club is heading and the things you all are doing. We are definitely going to join when we are permanently back in MI (if you all will have us  ).

Also...we have a new addition to the family! We went to visit my parents in MD a few days after the meeting and bought a 2005 Liberty (for Melissa) while we were there. We are already looking into a lift, tires, roof rack mounted spare, and bumpers! So if you see a dark kahki Liberty with smoked rims and 2.5" under it...give Melissa a wave!

Again though....thanks to eveyone who was at the meeting and we will see you all when we get back.

P.S. Does anyone have some good places for Liberty accessories? I am thinking the Rusty's 2.5" lift, but am looking for grill guards/bumpers, roof racks, etc. as well. Thanks!

I seem to remember that it was being postponed until July 13th because of 4th of July travelers. My wife and I made sure it was on our schedule during our vacation in July, but I just wanted to double-check that I had the right date. Plus, to be totally honest, I have NO IDEA where it is going to be. I'm just trying to get all of my proverbial ducks in a row before we fly next week.

Thanks!!

I am having a bit of a brake problem...I basically have little to absolutely no pressure at all on my brake pedal and the "brake" light is not only on, but blinking and beeping at me! I have checked everywhere (including all 4 corners) for leaks and have found absolutely nothing and I have also made sure that there is plenty of fluid in the resevoir (and the level has never moved). I ordered a new master cylinder thinking that is the problem. What do you all think?

I am going to replace the master cylinder on Sunday....is there anything that I should watch out for when doing this swap? I was trying to find a tech write up on the internet, but haven't found anything. Anyone know where I could track one down??

It is a 2004 Rubicon.

Thanks!

UPDATE: So, Sunday I went out to the carport and, with the help of my wife, bled the brakes. I saw a few air bubbles come through but I pretty much got a decent flow from the lines. So thinking that was the problem with my mushy brakes, I buttoned everything back up and hopped into the driver's seat. Bam....NO BRAKES AT ALL!!! Hmmm....So, I decided it had to be the master cylinder at this point. So I swapped the master cylinder to the new one, filled it with fluid, made sure that I bled/primed it, and then bled the lines again. Of course, I saw a lot more air coming through the lines, but I also saw even better flow of fluid than before. So, again I buttoned everything back up and....STILL NOTHING. The pedal goes straight to the floor now. At least before I had something, although not great. Now...NOTHING! I even traced all the lines and never found a leak anywhere. So, I drove it into work today (on dirt backroads in 4-LO, working the parking brake when needed) and dropped it off with the Embassy mechanic. Personally I am at a loss at this point. Any ideas??

The Lounge / Off Road Shop in Saginaw? - Update #1
April 14, 2008, 08:01:18 AM
So...since the wife and I are leaving the "nomadic" life of the Department of State and heading to Michigan in January '09, we were thinking of opening up an off-road shop in Saginaw. Mainly we would sell parts and do installation, but we were thinking that we could also sell quads and snow mobiles to cater to a lot of what the off-road market would be in that area...our main focus, though, would be on custom 4x4. What do you all think? You all know the market in Michigan better than I do right now. How do you think this would go if we opened it in Saginaw (my wife's hometown and where we own a house)? I know there is not much competition there, but what other competition throughout the state would I be up against? I have talked to a few people around Saginaw that are BEGGING for me to do this (literally...begging), but would there REALLY be a good market for this?

Any opinions are welcome!

Thanks!

A lot of you were a little curious about where I am currently residing after seeing my intro. post, so I thought I would post up some pics of the last safari I went on in Rwanda. We went to Akagera National Park in Rwanda...a large nature reserve toward the Zambian border a few months back. It is about a two hour ride from my house. I am also posting a few pictures of my house as well....just for fun

My house (your tax dollars at work ):

I basically walked right up to this guy to snap this pic:

Look close...there is a baboon in this picture:

We tracked this elephant for 3 hours until we finally found him:

Ok...there's a few to give you all a taste of my year in Rwanda so far.

Thanks and enjoy!   ::woot::

Introductions / Hi...from Kigali, Rwanda
March 11, 2008, 11:26:26 AM
Hi...

A little about what brought me here:
My wife and I are currently working for the Dept. of State in the Foreign Service and are residing in Kigali, Rwanda working for the US Embassy here. We just decided today that we are going to quit this, as moving around every few years to a new Emabssy is getting old and we are going to move back to her hometown in Saginaw in about a year. So....I decided that a bigger panic than not having a job in year, would be not having a Jeep Club in a year. So, I went tooling around on the internet this afternoon and found you all!

A little about my Jeep past and present:
Since I am originally from MD, I having been a 3 year member of NOVA Jeepers (out of Northern VA), a past member of Maryland Rock Raiders, and was a past member of Blue Mountain Jeep Alliance (out of PA).

I honestly have had too many Jeeps to list, but I am currently running a 2004 Rubicon with a 4.5" RE Superflex and 35s with a whole lot of extras. It tears up the crappy roads in Africa, so at least I stay a little entertained over here.   I plan to bring it back to MI after we leave here, so I will DEFINATELY be looking for some decent offroading as well.

Anyway....good to meet you all. I am sure I will be chit-chatting here over the next year before we head home. Hope to meet you all soon.
