The time was 1630, I had been at the mounds for thirty minutes, when I drove into a small mud hole. The cracking sound was what threw me first. Several inches of ice gave way and I was up to my rocker panels in mud.. My buddy Burch drove around me to pull me out, and suffered a similar fate, dropping through ice and getting stuck.. Here is the play by play...

Burch Gets Stuck, tires spinning, I tug him out.
I get stuck in deep mud and ice.
Burch pulls around to pull me out, get's stuck in ice hole.
After many crazy attempts to pull ourselves out, Neil shows up to save the day.
Neil pulls me out. Then talks shit, and is promptly stuck, to the top of his 35's.
The situation was dire. It was dark, cold and the only man with the winch was ass deep in mud. Then his alternator quit. Winching attempts were no longer an option..
I pulled out Burch attempted Neil, got stuck.
I pulled out Burch again.
Burch pulled out Neil.
I got stuck.
Neil pulled me out.
We left, QUICKLY.

This was all in the same fifty square meters.

The people at the gate locked us in. Scroll down to see the carnage

Yep. You have to know that area pretty well when it is snow covered. Never know what you will run into on that back field. Something my old club used to do is print out everyones phone number on a business card in the event something like this happens and need a pull out. Would have come out to bail you guys out as well.

I felt bad as ya called me yesterday.  I was in my first day of training on Afternoons and my training officer is looking at my funny as I was on the phone with ya.  I was gonna call Neil at the house for ya like I said and then we got sent to a call.  Sorry I couldn't do more for ya.  If I had been home I would have gladly come out and got ya.  Glad to see you got ahold of Neil and got out though.

No worries Longarm. Training is training man, and you know I understand that you can't just tell your superior to suck an egg, that you've got JEEPS TO SAVE! I appreciate the effort though man, and I'll keep you on reserve for next time.

That's not me, that's a Specialist named Burch from the local trans unit in Howell. He got off drill and met me to go up there on a whim, didn't have a change of clothing. And yeah, we got in for free, not that we would put ON our uniforms solely for the purpose of getting a discount. Needless to say, he probably could've wore something different than his WORK uniform, as it was a social event and not a duty oriented event. The unit commander has a policy that authorizes soldiers to wear their uniforms to places outside of duty locations if it is their duty day, so they don't have to run home and change for things like this. Also, the Army National Guard has a policy allowing off duty soldiers to wear their ACUs for Guard Recruiting Assistance Program opportunities, and I could easily qualify the mounds as a good place to recruit potential soldiers. I assure you if there were a serious violation of policy, procedure or regulation I would've made an on the spot correction and resolved the issue. I didn't feel there was. Is there anything else I can clarify for you?

Ok, I'm going to interject here.  Take it to PM's guys if you feel the need to continue.  I sense a pissing contest comming on.  Grifter, I have met Yager before and he seems like a good enough guy.  I don't think he would have done anything to embarass the uniform or let anyone in his presence do it either.  I'm sure he will speak to that soldier in the pic regarding having your pic taken in that situation.  The NG from what I have seen is TOTALLY different to BN life we are used too brother.  I'm not slamming the NG, I'm just saying that schools of thought are different.  You two don't know each other and I just don't want anyone in here getting tempers flared.  I sensed it heating up a bit with Yagers last sentence.  Were all good here.  Besides Grifter, chalk it up to the guy in the pic being a LEG.

Well, my apologies Grifter, I sensed some animosity in your post, so, like any reasonable NCO, came up with a somewhat biting but reasonably accurate answer that you would undoubtedly, have some kind of equally accurate countermeasure too, with, in all likelihood, that is just as, if not more so, sarcastic. But, Longarm is correct to stop us here, because we can't beat each other up on the forum, buy some beers, talk about that one time back in the day, and go home with bruises and a new friend. (Atleast not in any fashion I am aware of..) And yes, it's probably has something to do with me being a leg.
