Spotted and Sightings / Mitch at 15 and Davison
April 24, 2009, 09:47:39 PM
I think it was you, I only caught a glimpse as I was turing onto 15 but I saw the khaki with the flat fenders. Hopefully that is what my LJ will look like when it grows up.....ya know, except black.

Tech Talk / Sway bar link help/advice
April 15, 2009, 11:15:01 AM
After the 2.5" lift went on (thanks agin Neil  :D) I need to pick up some sway bar links.  The only thing I can find that will work with a 2.5" lift is some cheap Discos that I am not really trusting of the quality on.  I am not necessarily worried about the quick disco, just want to find some the right length.  Everywhere I check with says they have them but only for 3"inch to 4" lift.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this one without breaking the bank?

Spotted and Sightings / Mitch and Alice?
April 11, 2009, 11:08:41 PM
I think it was you 2 convoying down 69 West about 7:15 tonight near Belsay road. I only saw Mitch for a second but those fenders stand out. Not too far behind was the red JK with the club logo.  ::woot::

I was headed the opposite way on 69 trying to make it to the Dr to fight off this Bronchitis.  ::ouch::

Events / 4x4 Show visitor numbers?
March 27, 2009, 06:48:59 AM
I may have a couple of vendors lined up for the 4x4 show but I need some info. Do we have an average number of attendees for the last shows? They want an idea of how many people are showing up before they make a decision on whether to send someone out to set up a spot.

I am still wading through the red tape for my company for the donations but everything is going well and should meet the deadline with no problems.

Jeep Talk / Lift is on!
March 19, 2009, 06:22:59 PM
With incredible thanks to Neil, we installed my lift this morning!

With 4 broken bolts, an hour with a plasma cutter, a trip to the hardware store and a whole lot of swearing (and bleeding) we finally got it done. The difference isn't incredibly noticeable in pictures as it is only a 2 1/2" lift but you can definitely tell the difference in person. Thanks again to Neil, I never would have gotten it done without you.  In fact considering the problems we ran into I may have actually shot it several times.

Events / Donation poll
March 06, 2009, 11:24:22 PM
Ok, I was talking it over with Cody and we can't decide what I should try for as a donation from work to raffle off. No absolute guarantee that I can get exactly what we pick but there is a very good chance that I can pull it off with minimal fuss. I am also working on a few other things from corporate connections from Motorola, Samsung, LG, RIM and Palm to see what I can do about getting them involved.

I am putting the phone up to a vote.

Here the Nominees with links and multiple pictures with descriptions for each item

Samsung Instinct for Sprint. High end touchscreen phone //www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=1449

Motorla i580 for Nextel feature packed military spec phone //www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=875

Motorola i576 for Nextel. Rugged mid range sleek unit //www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=1861

The poll will only run for 5 days as I have to get the request in early to get everything cleared.

If anyone has another suggestion on a handset please post that up as well. I know the phone isn't exactly off road equipment but it is what I have access to and any big ticket item that brings in money is a good thing for Whaley's.

Spotted and Sightings / Spotted.......not a clue who
March 06, 2009, 09:26:45 PM
Not sure who it was but they were driving a dark color lifted XJ with a very noticeable stinger and what looked like maybe 33's from the glimpse I got. He/She was making a left from Bristol on to Linden. Couldn't tell you the color other than it was dark but the club logo reflected nicely. I was a couple of cars back making the left from Linden to Bristol.

I can get us a high ticket item to raffle off ($200-$800 value) but my company wants a letter explaining what it is for and asking for the donation. If we have one can someone please e-mail it to me or write one up and get it to me. I talked to our district manager and he said we might be able to get some manufacturers involved directly as well so the letter would come in very handy. I have a copy of the event flier but it looks pretty rough and blurry when printed. It also needs to be updated and spell checked.

If someone has one or gets one written up please send it along so I can get the request in and get things rolling.

My e-mail address is mailto:rallykid@yahoo.com">mailto:rallykid@yahoo.com

Saw you coming through the intersection when I was waiting at the light. You were already through before I saw the logo so here is a belated *wave* for ya.

Spotted and Sightings / Doug Today on Genesee Rd
February 19, 2009, 08:31:32 PM
Pretty sure it was Doug that I saw, tj had a roll call on the side that would have taken hours to read.

The wife and I were turning off Stanley leaving Neils after getting some measurements done for my rails.

Ooh, ooh, spotted Neil too since we were in his garage for a while.  ::woot::

Tech Talk / Opinions on this lift?
February 18, 2009, 07:14:14 PM
I was looking at going with a 2 inch spacer lift and some decent shocks which was going to run me about $230. I found the rough country 2.5 inch coils with 2.2 shocks for $270.  Any thoughts on this or would I be better off going with spacers? Also is there anything I am going to need that is not included here?

http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_tj_2.html

Obviously a suspension lift is generally better but if this is a crappy product then I would rather go with the spacers for now and if I decide to go up more then purchase a better lift down the road.

The Lounge / Thank you to the crew here
February 09, 2009, 11:57:13 PM
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for helping A new guy feel welcome at the meeting Sunday.  It was a lot of fun to hang out and meet you all.  Although there were enough of you there that I will never keep the names straight (I am bad with names anyway so that doesn't help) it is greatly appreciated to feel so welcome.

To whomever offered to help with the spare tire situation (I feel like an @$$ for not remembering your name) let me know if you have what I am looking for and what you want for it.

Also looking forward to helping get the tub on the frame of a certain pile of parts in a barn. Just let me know when.

Jeep Talk / Budget Boost help
February 04, 2009, 12:09:03 AM
So yesterday I put my skid plate to good use on the LJ and decided I need to take it up a bit so I can get close to the same climbover capability of my previous shorter wheelbase TJ.  I know when I take it to the cabin or my dad's place in Tennessee I am going to get hung up at stock height. I don't need anything major so I am shopping for budget boosts.

With all of the options out there (and there are a LOT) I am looking for some advice.  Does anyone have any brand recommendations for a 2 inch lift? I am leaning heavily toward the "Budget" portion of the budget boost so I know I am looking at spacers. I am just curious if I would be better off to source my own shocks and get the spacers or pick up one of the kits with shocks included. If I source my own does anyone have any good shock recommendations? I know a lot of people are going to recommend OME but at $80 each that kind of stings the wallet right now. I am trying to stay as close to the $200 mark as possible but that is not set in stone if there is something decent for a few bucks more.

I am running 31 10.50's right now on stock alloys and might bump up to 32's in the future but don't really have a need for anything bigger so 2 inch should suit me fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Introductions / Davison checking in
January 27, 2009, 11:17:17 PM
Hello all. New guy from Davison checking in.  Ouchman (not sure of his real name) hit me up on another forum and gave me an invite to pop in.  I have actually lurked here every now and then without joining.

I would also like to say thanks for the invite to the next meeting as the Eagles club is right down the road from me. It looks like I may be meeting a few of you in person.

Since I have no new pics I will post up the ones that I used on the other forum.

I picked up a black '06 LJ Dec 30th as I missed my previous '01 Amberfire TJ too much.

Here are some pics of the LJ (embarrasingly stock for now) with my buddies right hand drive JK.

Parked at work where I spend the majority of my days.
