Trail Rides / Mounds this Sunday?
August 04, 2014, 09:04:00 PM
I was exchanging some IM's tonight with someone who may be coming to our next meeting this Sunday and they said they might try to go to the mounds Sunday before coming out to the meeting... I told him I would post it up to see if anyone else might be interested in meeting out there around 12:00 to wheel until 4:30 or so before heading over to Little Caesars... Not sure if I can do it, but is anyone else interested?

Freebies / For those of you with a CJ...
June 20, 2014, 03:59:03 PM
I got the following item accidentally included with a recent order from 4wd.com:

http://www.4wd.com/Jeep-Brakes-and-Steering/Self-Adjusting-Wheel-Kit.aspx?t_c=65&t_s=542&t_pt=7963&t_pn=OAI16739.01

Some type of drum brake adjuster kit that fits CJ-5,6,7 apparently (72-86)

I called 4wd.com asking to send it back to them and they said I could just keep it... (it is only a $14.99 retail value) so if anybody could use this, claim it here and I will bring it to the next meeting!

Trail Rides / August Trips
June 07, 2014, 09:20:57 AM
In August the club has a trip planned to Evart, MI where we will be hitting the two tracks and doing some river tubing.  While we generally welcome guests to attend our trail rides, this particular trip will be members only as we will be staying at a member's property.  If wheeling, tubing, cookouts and campfires sounds like just the sort of thing you and your family would enjoy, come check us out at our next meeting on July 13th.

We also hold our second trail maintenance weekend in August up in Atlanta, MI.  Guests are welcome on this trip, however, this is a work weekend more so than a fun trail ride... If you'd like more info, shoot me a pm with your e-mail address and I will get in touch with you...

Trail Rides / July Wheeling
May 26, 2014, 03:52:39 PM
July we feature our Annual Weekend at Silver Lake Sand Dunes.  If you've never been at the dunes, it really is one trip you need to get on your calendar!  Guests considering joining the club are welcome to hook up with us at the Park for a day of taking on test hill and other challenging climbs, cruising around through the park, taking a dip in the lake for a refreshing break, etc.  Go with a club that knows the park, knows how to safely get you out of a bad spot, and will (generally) get you home in one piece!

If cruising the dunes has been on your list of things you gotta try with your Jeep, come to our next meeting on June 1st at Little Caesar's in Davison.  We'll be talking about our plans for that trip as well as lots of other good stuff the club will be doing over the next few months! Can't make the meeting, but still interested?  PM me and I'll reply back with more details.

Trail Rides / June Activity
May 26, 2014, 03:42:36 PM
After a hectic May with several trips and events, the only "official" item on our calendar for June is our 4WD Safety & Awareness Training event schedule for June 28th.  That is featured in a separate thread under the "events" forum.

Some of our members have discussed joining the trail ride June 6-8 up in Grayling which is being organized by some folks over on greatlakes4x4.com.  With this nice weather finally showing up, who knows what else might pop up at the last minute!

Jeep Talk / Jeep Night in Genesee County
May 12, 2014, 06:12:00 PM
I made a second trip out to snappers and spoke to the Bartender/manager that was there about the possibility of a Jeep night.  She told e she was going to discuss it with the owner, who wanted to have their summer schedule figured out by May 15th.  I haven't gotten a call back yet... I know Scott G. and Dave & Suzanne are both out that way...Perhaps if they (or anyone else that can swing it) happened to stop by and say they heard Snappers might be doing a Jeep night it would be just the kind of buzz that could get them to commit.

Events / Kalamazoo Jeep Show/Hockey Night
March 10, 2014, 06:03:23 PM
The Kalamazoo Wings are hosting a Jeep Snow-n-Shine on Saturday March 29th.  They were originally going to charge a $5.00 entry fee, but have decided to wave that and are just asking everyone to register so they have a count, but they are not charging.  If you want to stay for the game, the ticket is only $10.00. GLFWDA is apparently going to be setting up there for the day. Here is the info:

We welcome you to our 1st ever Jeep Shine & Show.  This event will kick off at Noon and conclude with the K-Wings game at 7:30PM. We will have vendors on site and many Jeeps to view.

The Hockey game features $2 beers, $2 hotdogs, and $1 Pepsi products.  We will have prizes for 3 Jeep categories.  Best Original, Best Custom, and Best in Show. The winning Jeeps will be driven on the ice during intermission.  To register your rig please call or email Chuck.  269.271.2915 or cgower@kwings.com  There is ZERO cost to register and display your Jeep but I want to keep an accurate count.

Following this link if you want to purchase a ticket: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-kalamazoo-wings-1st-ever-jeep-shine-show-tickets-10648274275

One of the organizers contacted us through the website to invite the club, which I thought was kind nice.  I know this was the weekend we were going to be in Baldwin, but since that trip looks like it might be pushed back, would anyone want to go down for this?

The Lounge / More ORV License Confusion
February 18, 2014, 09:30:16 PM
I know at the Meeting we passed around the new ORV lisence info, and Jim said he was told specifically by the DNR that we would only need the $10 trail pass, but this is one of the bullet points that I just received in an e-mail from the DNR about the new overall lisence structure:

"An ORV trail permit will be required, in addition to the ORV license, for riding on state-designated trails, routes and scramble areas." (emphasis added) Seems to directly contradict what Jim was told...

In Late April we are heading back to Black Mountain adventure area in Harlan County, KY for a second year in a row.  This 7,000 acre park was just amazing last year and we definitely had lots more to explore after two days of wheeling!  This will be a drive down Thursday, Wheel Fri-Sat, Drive home Sunday trip.  If you are interested in making the trip to this awesome park and getting a taste of some mountain wheeling, come to our meetings in March and April for more details.

Trail Rides / What's happening in March
February 11, 2014, 08:18:31 AM
We have planned to be in the Baldwin/Luther area to explore the two tracks in Late March... Planning an over night stay but could also work out as a day trip.  While we love snow wheeling, I am hoping by then the snow will be gone... although all the melted snow could make for some pretty wet, sloppy conditions on the trails.  Should be a fun day with the family in the Great outdoors either way!

If a day in the woods in your Jeep is just what you need to get out of the winter Blahs, find out more at our Meeting on March 2nd at Little Ceasar's in Davison or PM me for more details.
