Ok. We have a spare "Basement Watchdog 130Ah Sump Pump Battery" in our basement. The thing is huge, like 1.5 or more times the size of a normal battery. I've found lots of specs on it, it'll run a sump pump continuously for 7.5 hours, but I have not found anything that states its CCA (Cold Cranking Amps).

Anybody know if I could run this kind of a battery in my Jeep? Not that my battery is bad or anything, but I'm thinking this might make a good second battery?

Heres the best specs page I found on it:

Also, while on the topic, does anybody know of a cheap dual battery tray for a Jeep, or should I just make one? I've seen some on Quadratec, but they are around $200! For a bunch of plastic! ...

why do you need two batteries? My 45 doller stupidly high cranking/running walmart battery does just fine with all the crap I have in my jeep.

Because I feel that I may need it in the future, and if I have a nice battery laying around thats not doing anything else, why not?! And even if I don't need two batteries, I was going to replace my crappy generic cheapo battery with this high quality expensive one if it'll work in my Jeep..

It's only a 4 popper, 2.5.

Brandon.......  Having dealt with those batteries, DO NOT put it in your Jeep.  Those are Marine Deep Cycle batteries.  They are made for constant use, not for passenger vehicles.  Mainly used for boats and RV's, where they are constantly used to supply power for extended periods of time.  The "wal-mart cheapies" are just fine for your application.  I honestly don't even see a need for a 2 battery system for your application.  Save your $$$ and buy a lift and tires  ::poke::

Deep cell batteries are usually not rated for starting applications - car batteries make a ton of juice for short periods of time to crank the engine, using only 10% of capacity, then they need charged as the amp rate falls off quickly.  Deep cell batteries supply a steady stream of juice over 90% or more of their capacity.  They make a great second battery if properly wired for stereo, lights, winch, etc.

Thats what I was thinking. Right now I have a amp and subwoofer, auxiliary heater (which has killed my battery before), satellite radio, spotlight that I use for work, and at night I also have to plug in my sign which has 4 light bulbs in it.

On top of that I'm going to be getting a GPS soon, extra lights for my jeep, a winch, etc..

I think thats enough power to require more then my crappy 19.99 walmart battery, right? :D
