I don't think there is one better then the other, it all depends on driver style and preferrence. I have used manual and auto transmission for offroading. There are situation where I was in my manual that I wish I had an auto and situations that when I was in my auto that I wish that I had a manual. It also comes down to the type of offroading you will be doing. When I hillclimb I prefer to have an auto, but if I was slow trail riding, a manual comes in handy at times. For rock crawling a manual might be better, but again autos work just fine too.

Not liking the new main page at the moment. Getting a little to flashy for my taste. My pop blocker doesn't like it either. It treats the menus as pop ups and blocks them. I like the picture part, but not to fond of the menu part.

Quote from: "phittie1100"Wasn't the '74-'78 body style The Longest passenger car ever produced?  Those things are HUGE.  If I remember right the '74-'78 sedan was even longer than my parent's '83 Crown Vic WAGON.

If I remember right, and I could be wrong, that the 76 Cadilac Eldorado convertable was longest car produced.

Tech Talk / Re: XJ Lift

I am sorry Anthony put I disagree with a lot  you have to say. ANY lift kit you put on you need to replace the lift spring U-Bolts. It's just the comon sense thing to do. It is very cheap insurance $7.00 for a set of u-bolts.

Any lift kit 3" or more you will need to extend your rear brake line or your risk pulling it out over any kind or articulation. I have 3 1/2" of lift and my rear brake line was pretty strechted

I would like to see an XJ with a 3" lift on it using the stock front sway bar brackets. You wouldn't get hardly any kind of articulation on them. Again I have 3 1/2" lift and there was no way the stock sway bar links where going to work.

Your best bet Yager is to go to the NAXJA web site to get some real answers.

I myself would stay away from add-a-leaf lift kits on XJ's. In a few months your rear end will be sagging and you will be spending more money to replace your springs.

Here is the link I was talking about to do a budget lift

You will need to do a lot of body trimming if you are going to fit 35"s with a 3" lift. I have 3 1/2 in of lift with fendering trimming and only running 33's. I can fit 35's, but the fronts would still rub.

I strongly suggest to stay away from lift blocks for the rear leaf springs. XJ springs are kind of soft and they will make them wrap around the lift blocks.

If you are going to go to 3" of lift, you will need to relocate your front track bar or get an adjustable one. If this is going to be a trail only rig, there is a cheap way to relocate the front track bar. You will also need to get front sway bar disconnects or extentions. The stock ones are not long enough for 3" of lift.

I will send you a link to a cheap and easy lift for the XJ when I get home from work.

The Atlanta system has 3 seperate routes - Elk, Brush Creek and Tomahawk.  Tomahawk in the north includes a useless section laid out like quilt squares that depending on the recent weather can be really overgrown with wild roses and other vines that live to rip you apart.  The bottom section, Brush Creek, is (or was last year) still pretty heavily wooded, and is usually where we find the most trees down on/near the trails.  Elk, in the middle, has a little bit of something for everyone.  I'll try to get oversized copies of my map book made for tomorrow so all of the drivers (or at least each group) can have a decent map.

We are actually going to have to work while we are up there... hmmm going to have to re-think this and might have to charge extra for that..lol

Not sure how this club does it, but I know when I have done trail maintenance we never really haul anything out. Basically all we did was trim the trail to make sure the trail maintained the correct wide. Any thing we cut just got thrown to the side.
